a problem I have with this timeline

X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse, and now Dark Phoenix, why do they each need to be set in a different decade? Are we to believe they go that long without any big adventures? Because it's not dramatically necessary to have such big gaps. And while it makes sense for some of them, not for all of them to therefore remain so virtually ageless. It just feels almost obligatory at this point.

Because the producers want to showcase a different era for each movie.

And the slow aging in comparison to real life is a wink-wink to the fact that characters in the comics don't age visually over the years.

It lets them change the cast members, explore different issues relevant to the decade and gives McAvoy / Fassbender a chance to play maturing versions of their characters.

I thought it was a good idea that wasn’t executed particularly well.
