Supposed to be godawful. On par with Fan4stick (2015).

Oops they did it again!

reply

It’s likely for an extended version since they already had a screening back in October.

reply

It's hard for me to get excited about this. Like others have said, to really do the Phoenix right you need a movie trilogy on it. Not just one movie.

reply

The Dark Knight proved otherwise. Did you need a trilogy to care about Harvey Dent’s fall from grace?

reply

Well no but if the movie cannot make me care, should I care?

reply

It's completely differerent. The Phoenix story starts off with Jean getting posessed by a cosmic being and then the 2 fight against an evil guy who is of an alien race of people called the Shiar though not all the Shiar are for him. With the help of both the X-Men and some of the Shiar they fight against him and his lackeys. The Shiar and X-Men win with the help of Phoenix and that's the first movie. Then you do the 2nd movie with the Dark Phoenix where the cosmic being goes bad and starts killing people. That's how you do it properly. It's a lot more complex than Harvey Dent/Two Face. It's not comparable.

reply

I assumed you were one of those guy who believed that you need multiple films to be invested in a character.

reply

I would have liked Two Face to be a main villain but I am not that unhappy he wasn't. He was way better than Tommy Lee Jones' Joker Two Face.

reply

"Tommy Lee Jones' Joker Two Face" Ha, my thoughts exactly. He would have been perfect for that role, but went waay over-the-top. He has the acting chops, so it's a shame that the opportunity was missed.

Are they following that storyline in the movie?

reply

Well, sort of. The problem is they are doing the Phoenix as a a bad guy story and not doing the first Phoenix as a good guy story. At this point I doubt Marvel will even touch the story thanks to Fox's stupidity of doing it twice and getting it wrong twice.

reply

The Dark Knight is about Batman vs Joker. Even if it didn't have Harvey Dent in it, it would still be a great movie.

reply

Well it is known as the Phoenix saga. It is a major character. Dent is a side/supporting character. Take him out of the movie and its still the same movie for the most part.

reply

Agreed about needing this to be a trilogy. I mean, I remember watching the animated series and it was around an 8 episode story-arc. Crazy for a cartoon.

I'm looking forward to this, as I'm a die-hard x-men fan. But I think they should have scrapped the idea of bringing the Phoenix saga onto the big-screen in live-action form. I'd rather have a Mojo world movie *runs and hides*

I was buying these issues of the comic off the wire rack in my local 7-11. The escalation of the plot was fascinating and cool at the time. Revisiting the story, I find it much less interesting. Aged poorly. I don't think it will translate well into a movie.

I didn't much care for either of the last two Xmen movies so all in all I am pessimistic about this next one.

reply

I have an abstract curiosity to see what they did with it, since they did a bunch of reshoots after the merger was looming. If they did slap together an end to the whole saga, i'd like to see what they do. But that's the end of my interest in this picture. My X-saga ended with DOFP.
