This will be worth watching...

...if for no other reason than finally getting to see JLaw get killed off. (If that is what happens)

I happen to think this looks pretty good. My biggest criticisms are that this looks way too familiar (similar plot beats to X3) and I can't stand Sophie Turner as Jean. Say what you will about X3 but I always loved Famke as Jean / Romijn as Mystique much more than their younger counterparts.

I still love Fassbender as Magneto. He is by far the best thing about the prequel film's casting choices.

Not really. That’s like saying Deadpool had similar plot beat to Origins because both have Wade Wilson getting experimented on to be used as weapon, gain powers, and go by the name Deadpool. Jean was only in The Last Stand for 13 minutes.

-It starts in a prosperous time for mutants since they are still riding high after saving the world. (Despite the cure subplot in X3, it was also looking good for mutants in that movie especially with Beast in the White House)
-It looks like they are going with the 'Charles puts psychic barriers on Jean' again
-Charles will be resented again for making these efforts during her childhood
-Jean allies with Magneto (although this time it looks like she is going to him rather than him seeking her out)
-There is a new assembling of the Brotherhood following the death of a major character

Anyway, I actually think this looks pretty good. And I said the beats are similar. I didn't say it looked exactly the same and it will likely be very different from its predecessor. So I am cautiously optimistic.

Apocalypse ended off saying that there is tension in mutant relations after the events of that film.

They aren’t going down the suppressed power angle according to the plot synopsis they are going with the cosmic entity angle.

“In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite -- not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.”

And the trailer shows that Magneto views her as evil and wants her dead. They are not allies.
