Simple and surprisingly good (spoilers)

This film felt like a Richard Laymon horror novel, minus all the weird monster sex. An uncomplicated premise, decent creature effects, some inventive cinematography (the flare, the hole in the ocean floor) and a great central performance by Kiersey Clemons.

J.D. Dillard's films have a lot of interesting ideas and I think he's at his best as a director when he keeps things nice and simple. This was one of my favourite horror films of 2019.

Great B movie.

It is. It seems like J.D. Dillard's next project is going to be 'Star Wars' film, so I guess 'Sweetheart' had a few fans!

Came to say you're right. I've always liked the survival genre, and i've enjoyed this movie a lot.

It really is a wonderful genre that can capture your imagination when executed well.
