What the f*ck was that ending?

So anti-climactic. So boring and pathetic. Here we have another case of people coming up with a mystery box, without coming up with anything to put in it.

I have to agree. I didn't feel right and wasn't really satisfying. But I think they explained almost everything.

For me it would have been more exciting to see, what would have happened if The Kid would have gone back to
his dimension. Which time would it be? Would he age again? Was he missing like Henry all the time?

But they wanting this dark ending - with a little doubt if he is a demon after all - but that would mean, that the whole
episode spent on original Henry "The Kid" Deaver would be made up.

But what with the demon face Henry saw on Original Henry in the woods?I guess Henry was hallucinating ...

So... the poor guy gets trapped again. The end.

reply

How much doubt is reasonable?

reply

Was there really another dimension, though? I mean, other than the one this entity comes from?

Based on the face Henry saw in the woods, and that creepy smile The Kid had at the end (as though Henry is the one who is his prisoner, and not the other way around), I think we are supposed to think he really is the devil.

reply

Yeah, just like Lost, created a bunch of mysteries as they went along, without any particular resolution in mind.

You know, just once I would like to see a truly genius mystery series, where you are never disappointed and the conclusion just blows your mind - it has never happened. :-(

reply

Doctor Who had a few mysteries which where solved pretty clever.

I also would recommend Damages Season 1 to 3. Each one builds up with great mysteries and flashbacks and blows your mind at the end. One of the best shows out there. (Season 4 & 5 are also great - but not as fantastic)

Desperate Housewives first season had a great solution too.

Fringe got built up to have great story arcs over its season and over the whole seasons.

Homeland Season One also had a great build up and great solution.

Orphan Blacks first season was crazy exciting and after a lot of up and downs ended very well in its last season.

To name a few ;)

reply

Well, come on, neither Desperate Housewives nor Homeland are *mystery* series.

Orphan Black I watched initially but got tired of it by the time they introduced the male clone - it was just the same thing over and over.

I don't remember being that impressed with Fringe.

But I was specifically referring to shows with the element of the supernatural in my above comment.

reply

Fringe got better towards the later seasons, sort of like tng, ENT, and ds9.

reply

I just looked up Damages - not sure why you would recommend that in the same breath, either.

reply

Ok, I didn't understand mystery as it has to have supernatural elements. Just a mystery or plot that gets solved in the end. Fringe didn't impress me at first too.
Got better with each season - when they started big story arcs - which where seeded throughout season one in monster of the week episodes.

reply

Perhaps I should have said mystical, but yes, to me it primarily means that.

reply

Desperate Housewives always tried to have a season-mystery ... worked best in the first. But of course it was not the main factor of the show later on.

reply

I didn't get it.They just end it there without a definitive explanation. Was he the devil or was he really from another dimension. All that build up with no payoff.

reply

Thats what they wanted to leave you thinking, was Henry right in putting him back in the cell and he was the devil? or is Henry wrong and The Kid is wrongfully being imprisoned for eternity in a dark hole to never see the outside world again?

The ending was really fucked up and twisted if Henry is wrong, The Kid's face changing in the woods could have easily been something Henry just saw in his head or some side effect of the rift.

Personally i would have liked to have found out definitively that The Kid was innocent all along and telling the truth but Henry didn't know it, and have it end like it did knowing The Kid was innocent and gonna live out the rest of eternity locked up in that dark hole never aging a day just sitting there. I feel like that ending would have packed more of a punch, but leaving it open ended it leaves you feeling unsatisfied and not sure how to feel.

reply

I invested time I will never get back in my life, lol.... It was awful.

reply

I thought what Henry saw was how The Kid would have aged in his own time - 27 years older, which, if he too was 39 - would make him late 60s? I took this as an indication they were close to the portal and The Kid would age forward if he went back through, but it scared Henry too much.
