Avoid at all costs

Sometimes it's good to go into a movie without knowing anything about it. This is not one of those times. If I'd read about it I would never have watched it. It's a third rate knock off of Blade Runner, The Matrix and Robocop, but not a tenth as good as any of those films. Avoid. Unless you are into third rate knock offs of Blade Runner, The Matrix and Robocop.

seriously though it wasnt great its not that bad.

Whoa, suddenly there’s more naysayers flocking here. Has the Digital/Online release dropped already? Figures.

Glad I saw it before ever considering skipping it thanks to these unenthusiastic (to put it mildly) reviews... kidding, online critics never keep me away from seeing any film I’m interested in. Speaking of online critics, one should avoid a critical success like this one at all costs? Lol.

I’ve seen all those sci-fi classics, by the way. Love ‘em. And guess what? Upgrade didn’t impress me any less or so much as reminded me of any of them (certainly not enough to call it a knock off). Take your overblown criticism and s... ail away.

Avoid at all costs

^^^

do you always make such definitive posts when Your in the MINORITY?

your opinion of this movie is written like a fact, then you make a title like YOUR giving universal Great advice.....Yet your opinion of this movie is in the Minority....

Upgrade based on the Majority consensus is none of the things you listed....The Movie Got Great reviews, has Great Audiences Scores, has good to Great Rating on all Major sites....

Basically I could completely understand this post, Your Opinion and your title, If this film AT ALL had the facts to back up those AWFUL comparisons, If say Upgrade had like a 20% on RT.....got like a "D" cinemascore, and had like 4.2 ratings on IMDB(those FACTS would in fact suggest the movie was as BAD as your suggesting)....Buuuuuuuuut Instead every single thing about this film suggest the OVERWHELMING MAJORITY feels Much DIFFERENTLY than YOU!

in conclusion....

Maybe change the title to "In My Opinion....Avoid at all Costs"

Or maybe at least somewhat be realistic and acknowledge that your about to give an opinion that does not at all seem to be the consensus....

Maybe say "Ok I dont understand why this film has great reviews and people seem to like it, to me its a third rate knock off of Blade Runner, The Matrix and Robocop, but not a tenth as good as any of those films. Avoid. Unless you are into third rate knock offs of Blade Runner, The Matrix and Robocop. "

basically this entire post comes off as a Delusional RANT.....

you're more than within your right not to like this film....everyone has their own opinions....But thats the point, Your Opinion seemed to be part of a very small minority who didnt like the film, yet you made this post like you were speaking a universal truth thats widely believed....

reply

Why on earth would I have to write "In my opinion..." before everything I post? Of course it's my opinion. That's how the internet works.

I love how my 1 paragraph was a "rant" by the way. That made me laugh.

reply

^^^

not everything you post....

Just posts when you are clearly saying something that the overwhelming majority doesnt agree with .....

your opinion on the film is extremely ODD....I would say your in a tiny(almost non existent Minority).....the level at which you seem to Hate this film is just not normal..

based on the facts around 85% on the people who watch this movie like it....

that leaves 15% who dont like it...out of those 15%, I would bet not even 1% Hate the film as much as You or wouldnt say "avoid at all costs"....some of those 15% maybe just thought it was average, below average, didnt Like it or thought it was bad....your opinion seemed to be the film was dreadfully awful, which again based on the facts I just dont see even 1% sharing that level of hate...

so if your giving an opinion that ALMOST NO ONE else agrees with....you might want to add "IMO" or state up front that You know your about to say something no one else agrees with...

lol and worst you tried to COVER yourself by suggesting If YOU LIKE THE FILM... theres something wrong with you with "Unless you are into third rate knock offs of Blade Runner, The Matrix and Robocop. "

just except it....the Majority Liked this film....you dont need to come up with reason why they liked to make yourself feel better

You didnt like it, thats ok....just except that Your opinion isnt shared by the majority....

I think thats what the problem is...You seem to dislike this film SO MUCH that it bothers you that the Majority likes it....

if you want to believe that nearly 85% of the people that saw and liked this film has "Bad Taste and likes 3rd rate knockoffs"....thats fine, whatever makes you feel better..

but its much more likely that the 85% has normal taste and just saw and liked a GOOD MOVIE and You for some reason just hated the movie and dont want to except that the Majority likes it....

So in conclusion....of course you dont have to put "IMO" in front of everything...but when your making a statement that almost NO ONE ELSE agrees and then end that statement by basically saying If you dont agree then you all are WRONG and Have BAD TASTE and Must like "3rd rate knock offs".....you should probably go ahead and add IMO....because thats literally all your doing....your just giving An Opinion that very few people are going to agree with ...

reply

I can very readily accept my opinion isn't shared by the majority. But I'm confused as to how that has any relevance to my opinion in the first place.

Most people I know love olives. Alot of them also like reality TV. I avoid these things at all costs, and I would advise others to as well......that makes me an idiot and a douche according to this website.

It's a poor film.

reply

Have to interject here...
Its understandable that you didn't like it. But considering that the number of people who did far surpass the number who didn't, your "Avoid at all cost!" perspective is a little weird.

"If you see this movie coming up on the movie channel, you change that station ASAP! Or run away from the TV covering your ears and screaming. Lest you otherwise subject yourself to a movie that...you'll...well you'll probably like it, really. I mean...statistically speaking, that is.
BUT YOU WON'T! Because man I just thought it was terribad, so...definitely don't even think about giving it a shot.

Yeah I can see the weirdness in the way you went about expressing your opinion as a supposed warning. Its kind of narcissistic. Like you don't see validity in others' perspective if it doesn't match your own...so much that you're thinking you're saving people when the reality is that you're most likely doing them a disservice.
Yeah its weird man. Makes you seem kind of self absorbed.

Edit, pardon, didn't read below where you realized you could have worded it different, good on ya man.

reply

In all fairness this had a smaller budget to work with than those films.I didn't like the dismal ending but the movie was impressive.

reply

Hey guize most ppl liked dis movie butt i didn’t liek it so avoid at all costs!1

reply

The mistake you've made there is thinking that I know that "most people liked this movie". How do I know what most people like? I'm just offering my opinion on a movie and this is one to avoid.

reply

The mistake you've made there is thinking that I know that "most people liked this movie". How do I know what most people like?

^^^^

to not except that the majority liked this film...Is to Literally Cover you ears, close your eyes and start being a child....

you literally have to ignore ALL FACTS to claim this film is not liked by the Majority....

let me be clear, because I dont just say things

I have not claimed This is an all time great film, I'm not trying to say its loved, I'm not giving any statistical measure of how much people like this film....

But I am saying The Majority Unequivocally Likes this film....and the reason I'm stating that is....Its a fact and can be proven

The Majority consensus proves it....Based on any way you judge a film, The facts state The Majorit of people that watched this movie liked it, The Overwhelming Majority....

If you dont agree with the Majority consensus thats fine(I have plenty of films that are considered great that I dont like)....but you cant Change the Majority Consensus....

you dont like this film....that is YOUR OPINION....your opinion is different from The Majority Consensus....

but you NOT LIKING this film does not change the fact that The Overwhelming Majority does....

The fact that you cant except the Majority consensus is quite Telling....You clearly feel like you are smarter than everyone else and your Opinion is RIGHT and everyone else is WRONG....

for example....I very much enjoy the 2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film(you know the one Michael Bay Produced)I enjoy that film and like it.....But I completely except that My Opinion Is in the Minority, I completely recognize that the overwhelming Majority DID NOT LIKE that film...based on all data The Majority disliked the film...

I dont go around claiming "Nope I'm right and everyone else is wrong, TMNT is Great, everyone else just must have bad taste and like 3rd rate knock offs"

the facts states TMNT is not Liked by The Overwhelming Majority.I have no problem excepting that I just Like a film the most others dont like....

You on the other hand clearly can not except that MOST OTHERS Like a film that you Hate....You would rather DENY the Majority consensus and claim everyone else has Bad taste and must like "3rd rate knocks offs"

The facts unequivocally state Upgrade is Liked the The Overwhelming Majority....this can not be argued....Your more than within your right to disagree with the Majority consensus,But You can not change the Majority consensus and You disagreeing does not mean everyone else is wrong....

the facts are...You strongly dislike a film that The Overwhelming majority likes.....just except that you have a different opinion, to try and fight the majority consensus is to literally PLAY GOD....."Nope dont care what everyone else says, The Movie is terrible, I'm right, you are all wrong, My Opinion TRUMPS ALL"

Instead theres a very simply solution....just be reasonable...."ok I recognize majority seem to like this film, But I dont and I dont understand why anyone likes this film"

You can feel very strongly that this film is awful....but you've at least got to recognize that your opinion doesnt change anything....

Instead your trying to ignore the Majority consensus and claim everyone else who likes the film has bad taste and must like "3rd rate knock offs"

reply

It was pretty good considering the budget, Loved the premise.

reply

Tah, this movie was like a Black Mirror episode on steroids, and if ya don't like it, then go suck an egg!

reply

Basically, you need to learn how to word your posts without sounding like a douche.
If you know it's only your opinion, then word it that way.
Why would you tell people to avoid a film that the majority seemed to enjoy, just because you didn't enjoy it yourself?
Think it through, mate.

reply

There we go again......

"Why would you tell people to avoid a film that the majority seemed to enjoy"

You've made an assumption that I've taken a survey of people's thoughts on the film, or take any notice of the score next to the film's page on this website.

If we all looked at the score of the film on this website, and then altered our view of the film we've just seen, depending on what "the majority" felt about it - then that would make us all "douches" for being sheep.

There are too many fanboy manbabies on these types of website that just cannot take it when somebody dislikes a film they like. To then claim that a reviewer of the film should take in the thoughts of the "majority" and adapt his or feelings about the film accordingly is preposterous as it is hilarious.

The film sucked. (In my opinion.)

reply

Again? So, you've already had this explained to you and still you don't understand? lol
You've missed the point. It doesn't matter what other people thought of this film.
The point is, just because YOU didn't enjoy it, doesn't mean other people wont!
You are telling people not to watch a film simplky because you didn't like it....Why? Are you under the delusion that everyone has the same opinion as you?
Only an idiot is going to see your review and then decided not to watch it simply because one stranger online didn't like it?
So, you understand why advising strangers not to watch a film just because you didn't like it is stupid?
Fair enough if you had personal problems with this film but don't assume everyone else will share those problems.
Regardless of what you thought of it, you do realize this is a well made, well acted, well shot film? Therefore likely people will enjoy it....

reply

But that's the same as somebody saying:

"You've got to see this film, man, it's amazing"

You can't have it both ways.

reply

It's not though, because if you watch a film and you don't like it.....At least you know!
Then you can move on.
But how will you know if you like the film unless you watch it?

Either way, I personally wouldn't tell a stranger to watch a film if I don't know them or know anything about their taste in film.
It just doesn't make a lot of sense to, does it?

reply

Have you never held off watching a film because other people have called it bad, only to finally watch it for yourself to realize you actually liked it?

reply

No. I watch films because I want to watch them. Not because other people have told me they are bad or good.

You're getting hung up on 1 persons opinion of a film. Which you disagree with.

You're opinion is ; This film is worth watching, it's good.
My opinion is: This film isn't worth watching, it's bad

Yet apparently, only one of us is allowed to type those things on the internet.

reply

So, you've never watched a film because someone has told you it's good? lol
Absolute BS, mate.
We have all listened to our friends recommendations and there's nothing wrong with that.
I am not hung up. I don't care that you didn't like the film, what annoyed me was the fact you were advising strangers not to watch it....As if you had the assumption these strangers you were advising would agree with you that it's a bad film?

Anyway, it's not a big deal. I just agree with the other guy who was posting before me. (billbrown)

reply

You know what, I've had a think and I think you're right. I shouldn't have said "Avoid at all costs". People should watch it for themselves and judge it. I should have said something along the lines of I wish I HAD AVOIDED IT.

reply

Yeah, it's not a big deal lol but fair play for being honest, buddy.

reply

Nah, avoid this post at all costs lol. The film is really good, don't listen to this idiot.

reply

I thought it was refreshingly bloody good, not sure why you think its a robocop, matrix , blade runner rip off, i thought it was a great concept, a chip that can control brain waves, think this could become a bit of a cult film further down the line

reply

Robocop - similar themes of lead character dying at the beginning and being revived to fight evil
Matrix - fight scenes with camera placement to try and add drama
Blade Runner - Corporations running a dystopian society in the future involving technology.

None of the themes were done well really.

reply

well i disagree, i thought it was a good movie, lots of movies have the same themes

reply

That's fine. People disagree. Especially about the arts.

reply

It has a Blade Runner/Robocop feel to it simply because of the time period. In that sense, Robocop would be a knockoff of Blade Runner too. You're gonna dizzy yourself spinning in a circle trying to figure out what's original in modern sci-fi and what isn't, utlimately getting nowhere.

Blade Runner and Robocop are about machine-like beings, and Matrix is about a computer-generated world. None of them are centered around a person fighting for control of their body. That's really the gist of this movie. It's how the main character reacts to that specific situation.

What's funny is the upcoming Venom has more similarities to Upgrade's primary theme, than Upgrade has to those three movies you mentioned.

reply

I'll take your word for it. I won't be watching Venom.
