The Subtitles?

The subtitles don't match what they are saying. They are using different words that mean the same thing though. I've never seen this before. Is there a reason they just aren't using the same words that are spoken? Strange!

I don't speak Spanish so I wouldn't know if they are using the same words (or I guess you are referring to dubbing? I would never watch anything dubbed), but I did notice from the first episode that the grammar in the English subtitles isn't always correct and the phrasing is often awkward, which sometimes makes them difficult to follow. The translator's English isn't very good.

This is an example not from the movie but on the same line. Man says "go run down there and fetch the dog" Subtitle would read "hurry up and go grab that mutt" I guess the subtitles were for what they actually said in the original movie and not for the dubbing.

Chances are they dubbed in English, and then translated automatically from English to other languages... including Spanish.

Check subdivx, it's a good place to find Spanish subtitles

So, I never watch anything dubbed, I watch in the original language with English subtitles. I have now watched all three seasons of this show, and the English subtitles are just bad. They were obviously written by a non-native English speaker, but what I am really wondering is, how is it that no one bothered to proofread them?? It's extremely unprofessional to add a show to your lineup, for the *American* audiences, with subtitles that have spelling and grammar mistakes, and where the English translation often doesn't even make sense.

I actually reported the issue to Netflix.

That was really strange, I never have seen that before.

Exatera, what is your opinion on the show? I'm only on episode 11. I didn't even realize it has 3 seasons until today. Can't believe it is stretched out so long. I'm enjoying it, l actually forgot about it and just started watching it again. I haven't watched it since I made my original post 2 months ago. SPOILER --- The episode just ended with the cop pointing a gun at the professor, holy shit!!!! My guess is he got his place looking legit, lol. Way to early for him to get popped.

It's pretty good overall, with some lapses in logic here and there. Still though, I found it enjoyable, and am definitely waiting for season four.

A couple of things that bothered me: Berlin saying that Rio was 15 years younger than Tokyo when in reality they are only seven years apart, and besides how could a woman her age have a lover that much younger without it being full on creepy, not to mention illegal? If her character was supposed to be older, they should have cast an older actress.

Item two: they went into the mint fully intending to spend 10 days inside there without anybody taking a shower?? That literally never once came up as an issue (well, once, in a rather ridiculous piece of dialogue), but I really can't imagine all the hostages as well as the gang all being there for so long unwashed.

They would be some stinky mo fo's, lol. I got to get back to watching it. I'm only on season 2, episode 4 now. I'm shocked that there is still enough storyline left to make another season. I really want to cheat and watch the last episode to see what the Hell is going on.

reply

Oh, don't cheat, enjoy the journey. :)
