name another series with 4 duds in a row

duds meaning they were/still are* considered a disappointment critically and just general audience opinion but weren't necessarily flops at the box office but in most cases will have underperformed.
(*of course some may since been reappraised as being ahead of their time)

Alien (A3, AR, Prometheus, Covenant - not including AvPs)

Predator (AvPx2, Predators, The Predator)

reply

Superman (III, IV, Returns, MoS & BvS/JL -depending on your pov that's 6!)

reply

Man of Rehash/Batfleck v. Pseudoman screenwriter David S. Goyer probably had a bet from a guy who said "you can't ruin the Terminator franchise anymore than it already is" and he replied "Hold my beer..." and went to write Dark Fate.

reply

Superman 3 is a personal favourite of mine.

reply

its a fav of mine too, but the general consensus is it sucked

reply

(sigh) I've heard, but it got me into computers at a young age after Tron the year before, and I've always loved it for that.

Highlander II: The Quickening, Highlander: The Final Dimension, Highlander: Endgame, Highlander: The Source

reply

After all these years, I'm still pissed at the crappy Highlander sequels, cause I love the first one so much!

reply

a perfect 4 score

reply

I liked highlander 2

reply

Force Awakens, Rogue One, Last Jedi, Solo

reply

Force Awakens was OK but VASTLY overrated by Star Wars fanboys (who have only themselves to blame for Disney ruining their franchise now) and Rogue One was decent.

reply

I liked Rogue One.

reply

Rogue One was average at best, the new characters other than the Droid were totally forgettable, the Vader cameo was great though.

reply

I AM NOT A HUGE STAR WARS FAN...ROGUE ONE WAS BADASS THOUGH..THE CHARACTERS WERE ALL VERY COOL AND MEMORABLE..CERTAINLY MORE SO THAN THE OTHER RECENT STAR WARS INSTALLMENTS.

reply

Can't blame Star Wars fans for Disney straight up murdering the series and Force Awakens received at best a lukewarm reception. Few were enthusiastic about it.

reply

TFA was really good most fans liked it

reply

TFA was just A New Hope repackaged.

reply

And i love a new hope hence why i really like TFA

Howling III: The Marsupials, Howling IV: The Original Nightmare, Howling V: The Rebirth, Howling VI: The Freaks

I didn’t start with Howling II, because the editor deserves an award for the number of times he includes Sybil Danning’s stunning breasts in the end credits!!! (and it was the first video I ever rented!)

reply

Besides the famous end credits, Howling II is actually quite entertaining. Not good, but it has a weird charm. It's one of those movies that are bad but enjoyable.

reply

The Saw movies tended to do well financially, partly because they were so cheap to make, but I didn't care for any of them after Saw II.

reply

Then theres the other horror/slashers Friday13, Nightmare etc. which must have 4 or even more duds in a row somewhere

Was thinking Halloween but maybe had the occasional good one (i.e. its considered good by most) so probably can't do 4 in a row

reply

Prometheus is underrated and it wasn't a flop

reply

It wasn't a flop (most of the ones mentioned weren't) and maybe its underrated but theres no getting past it was considered massively disappointing and had mixed/negative reviews at the time

reply

Prometheus is OVERrated AND it destroyed our imagination of what the Space Jockey should be.

reply

Prometheus was the worst movie in the franchise until Covenant came out. They're supposed to form a trilogy; so far no news on the third movie, presumably because of how badly received those movies were.

reply

>> Prometheus was the worst movie in the franchise until Covenant came out. <<

Ummm, both were miles ahead of Alien: Resurrection, which was directed by a French guy who does music videos and is infamous for the scene of Brad Dourif cooing "awww, what a beautiful baby" at the hideous alien-human hybrid.

That film was a crime against cinema.

reply

Only 3 shitty sequels, but the original cult classic House from 1986 deserved better.

reply

Every film in the Friday The 13th franchise is a dud.

reply

Hellraiser, I think 8 or 9 duds in a row, the last 7 or 8 straight to video

reply

Amen, that series is a joke.

reply

The Friday the 13th series is greatly entertaining from beginning to end, even the lesser entries are entertaining one way or another.
