bombing so hard its embarrassing

Don't think its even going to make it to Genisys' abysmal domestic 90m. (probably tap out about 75m like Alien Covenant)

overseas looks shot too (unlike genisys which was saved by foreign BO esp china).. be lucky if DF gets near 300m worldwide ..hell 250m might be a big ask! (between the underperforming Covenant/240m and BR2049/260m but Alien and BR were never really expected to be blockbusters unlike post T2 Terminator films)... that'd be around 200m less than Genisys! (whoever decided DF be rated R must be feeling very uncomfortable about now!)

FUCK! imagine telling someone (even yourself if you were there) coming out the theatre back in summer '91 blown away by what they'd just seen that years later there would be a sequel to T2 with Arnold/Linda and Cameron producing that would be bombing so hard.. they'd think you were fuckin LOONEY TUNES!

reply

I think they should have made TDF as a more of a horror film like the original 1984 picture.

Opened it a week before Halloween....

They could have done that and shed about $150 million from the budget.

These days both Arnold and Hamilton will work pretty much work for popcorn.

There was no need to for this kind of budget following the response of Terminator Genisys.

reply

It was released the week before Halloween in Europe so was sort of a 'Halloween' movie but as you say should've been more horror based (Dr Sleep was also released earlier on Oct 31 in UK). Think originally it was to be a summer movie out July as usual for a terminator since T2 (which would've made more sense as DF was basically another 'T2' not a T1)

Regarding the budget , when I heard Miller was directing I figured it was because Deadpool was low budget and they wanted to go that low budget/R rated route for T6. I was most surprised when found out recently the budget was almost 200m! (more than Genisys!)

reply

The $200 Million dollar price tag is like throwing a banana into the monkey cage. It made no sense.

The earlier film was a flop and nobody was interested even with the return of one of Hollywood's biggest icons of 90's in a followup to his signature role that made him a superstar.

Did the studio, producers actually think that Linda Hamilton would have that same jaw dropping reaction.

reply

In some ways Linda Hamilton is the new Lorraine Gary.

She's not hunting for sharks, she's hunting for terminators!

The franchise is dead.

reply

Terminator The Revenge! LOL

reply

Who would have thought that people want to see a good movie instead of being happy for how progressive Hollywood is?

reply

Its ironic that DF was considered/promoted as the new 'real T3' after TG tried to do the same (and T3 obviously attempted in 2003) but even more so due to returning Hamilton/Cameron . Yet its going to end up doing almost half its box office!

Its f'kin CRAZY!

reply

They had the poster up at the train station, my thought process was something like,

1/ Oh man, another Terminator film *rolls eyes*
2/ Linda and Arnie look old, real old.
3/ The two younger women look incapable of the Woke/Empowered woman shit they will no doubt perform.

Not surprised it has bombed.

reply

Same here! LOL some cheesy massive banner of grandma wearing glasses, toupee wearing Arnold, midget Mexican girl and Grace with a cheesy full blown picture of the Rev 9 to boot.

My thoughts were the same as yours.

reply

Linda Hamilton looks like she has been left out in the sun too long, she isn't actually known for any other role so it is kind of funny she was so prominent on the poster. Like "Oh my god a Linda Hamilton film, gotta see this!" Arnie was just in it for the bucks and hasn't made a decent film for a while either.

The two younger ones I had never heard of and at this point the tough girl look/act has been so over done it's no longer exciting or amazing to see women dressed in leather toting guns.

Must have killed to have to include Arnie, could have been an all girl power poster otherwise.

reply

Totally agree!

reply

To be fair, Linda Hamilton SHOULD be a big draw for anyone who remembers T2. I know her return to the franchise was a major selling point for me personally.

reply

I'm just over the whole franchise. Although Linda is certainly not a selling point for me for anything.

reply

Yes , having Linda Hamilton on the poster is similar to William Shatner or Leonard Nimoy on the old Star Trek film posters or Mark Hamill on The Last Jedi poster. Absolute zero bankability in anything else (that would be stdvd anyway).. but an iconic megastar in that franchise. And Arnold of course (used to be) a name above the title A list film star like Harrison Ford (that became a star in the first place due to terminator/SW so having them back was always a huge deal)

It made sense for Linda to be the main figure/top billing on the posters for DF as a) its the age of 'woke', b) its her return to the franchise since T2 and shes the Jamie lee Curtis of the franchise (taking note of the crazy box office of the new Halloween) and c) the Arnold based TG had shit the bed and Arnie was obviously front and central on the TG posters/top billing (he got 2nd billing on the DF international posters as well as in the end credits)

reply

Indeed.

The only other thing beyond Terminator that I can remember seeing Linda Hamilton in is Dante's Peak. She was actually pretty good there, and has talent, so I wonder why she wasn't more successful.

But yeah, in the world of Terminator, she's a big deal.

reply

she looked great in Dantes Peak.. it dosnt seem that long ago but its over 20years! Yeh she should have been like sharon stone or the huge female stars of the 90s after T2..she was certainly as 'hot' as all of those.. but then maybe she was abit older and she'd married Cameron after T2 so maybe didn't feel like busting her ass constantly competing with all the Julia Roberts etc anyway I think she was pretty much typecast as hardass Sarah Conner like Carrie Fisher was as Leia

reply

"Linda Hamilton SHOULD be a big draw for anyone who remembers T2."

Linda Hamilton and Edward Furlong ruined T2 for me. She was good in The Terminator (1984) though.

reply

I actually thought Arnold looked surprisingly young here. I remember thinking he looked close to death's door when he made The Last Stand. I think he looks younger now than he did then. Maybe got botox or something.

reply

He might've had a slight Botox thing as I think all the guys are into that now (Stallone, Cruise, Simon Cowell)and as mentioned above he's wearing a (very subtle) toupee in DF (his real front hair is thinning out abit for a few years now) . He was in TG as well (the silver one of course and in the 1984 scenes).. and he may have even had like a frontal hairpiece in T3 as his spike hair looked the same or even slightly better than in T2 (which was obviously his own spiky hair).. I think he was even wearing one for parts of T1 for when he gets his hair burned into the classic T800 spike do (at least immediately after he gets fireballed by Reese.. later on it apears to be his genuine hair that must've been trimmed later on in the shoot from the floppy 80s choir boy hair cut he had in the opening )

BO update:

The reason TDF is failing is because its a weak film. Its third act was a complete joke. Cut`n dry.

reply

I think it can basically be broken down into four factors:

1. The last few films were not well-received and turned a lot of people off the Terminator franchise.

2. Word got out that this was the latest in the recent slate of woke films that had a leftist political agenda to push and that alienated a sizable chunk of the audience.

3. The trailers looked like total shit. I remember how let down I felt when the first trailer dropped.

4. The budget was too damn high.

They may have been able to get away with #4 if numbers 2 and 3 had not been in effect.

reply

maybe there shouldn't have been a Dark Fate. I mean if the producers of DF couldve just glimpsed this board now before filming, they'd have pulled the plug on DF, and TG would've been the final Terminator movie (a depressing thought in itself)

Terminator seems fated not to go out with a bang and successful movie like T2 but a 'dark fate' of a movie that split the fans/audiences (no matter what the BS Tomatoes site says) and horrific box office (kind of like the Alien franchise)..

reply

What I would like to see is a Terminator movie that goes in a completely different direction. I've always thought it would be see something from inside Cyberdyne. I imagine the goings on looking a lot like the scenes in the halls of OCP in Robocop.
