"Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes but NOBODY posts that they like it!

I know there's a lot of negativity on the Internet but if we counted all these Movie Chat posts/threads this new Terminator movie would come out to something like 6% Rotten. What gives?

reply

I think that there is a default to trolls. That goes with everything, not just movies.

If you are upset you are motivated to vent.

People can also be highly critical of films, because it shows you how smart they are see. A Woody Allen movie had a scene about that.

On critic said of Kubrick's/Clarks 2001 Space Odyssey, that he was unimpressed. That he could write the plot on a cocktail napkin.

If you are satisfied you are not motivated to post, because you will get hammered by the trolls. You CAN give a anonymous rating on a website however.

Very good points Redsfan. Just to add I've seen a couple of Dark Fate reviews on YouTube by somewhat credible reviewers and they don't seem to like this version very much either.

reply

I noticed that as well. I'm really starting to believe that theory that RT artificially inflates scores might hold some water. People have been saying it for years. The rating on RT doesn't match the box office or all the comments on NUMEROUS websites on the internet at ALL. It's like night and day, in fact.

reply

I wholeheartedly agree. I think it's the power of Hollywood, they somehow managed to manipulate the reviews to their favor. I first noticed this with Ghostbusters 2016, no way should that have been certified fresh. And now, with EVERYBODY saying how lackluster Dork Fake is it's obvious someone is poisoning the well.

reply

Yep, and RT is one of the most referenced sites when it comes to movie ratings. I've seen this far too often. There have been MANY turd movies on RT where many reviewers are practically calling it a bad movie but then put "Fresh" as their rating. I've seen it for Live Free or Die Hard, Batman vs. Superman, etc.

At least there's something we can finally agree on.

Both Batman vs. Superman and Terminator: Dark Fate were crafted by franchise killer David S. Goyer.

Coincidence? I think not.

theres 2 RT scores though - the critics (the main one) and the audience. and BOTH are fresh for DF 70% and 84% (usually the audience score can differs wildly - e.g. Venom 29%/80%)

reply

Yeah the bizarre part -- Terminator: Dark Fate is Certified Fresh with audiences are critics alike, and is OVERWHELMING positive with BOTH groups according to RT. That doesn't make sense given how the film bombed at the box office and is getting a scathing response and negative attacks all over the internet. I could understand if it got a mildly "positive" critic score like 70% (with the consensus being "eh, not bad, vast improvement over T3-5) but had a dismal 12% positive score from audiences. That would be more reflective of the ACTUAL comments and ticket sales we're seeing.

As for Ghostbusters 2016, it surprised people that it got a mildly positive response from critics (74%) but it divided audiences completely, and is sitting at 50% on RT. Some people loved it, others utterly despised it, and were quite outspoken about hating it on RT. That's nowhere near as "positive" as Terminator: Dark Fate supposedly is with viewers. I don't know where all these happy audience reviews are coming from, because I haven't met anyone who loves the movie.

reply

looking at the last 3 Terminators:

both Salv and Gen had low critic % but audience was abit better. T3 had fresh critics but a lot less audience %

reply

RT must have made some changes in the last two weeks. Now it seems they're focusing in 'correcting' the audience score, since the critics one is dismissed lately.

I am the other way. I don’t know people in the real world that hates it. They either like or love it.

reply

One factor is that giving your rating is quick and easy, whereas writing an actual review - even if it's just a couple of sentences - isn't something you're going to bother to do unless you feel strongly one way or the other. And I dare say that more people are going to feel strongly in a negative way about this movie, than in a positive way. 1-3 stars, or 9-10, you might bother to offer your two cents. But 4-8 stars? Nah.

reply

This makes sense. I liked the movie, it was better than everything after T2, but I'd still only give it a 7 at most. Not going to waste my time with a big review. Why bother? I sat down, ate some popcorn and watched things blow up. I wonder how many people complaining about it actually saw it?

reply

Films churned out of the Woke Propaganda Factory, like this one, will of course get favourable reviews from mainstream critics (who are all Woke otherwise they get fired), but we could always rely on the audience score for a more unbiased reaction.

Not any more, looks like RT are now fixing that score too. So now we have to go digging for non-Woke reviewers on YouTube for any kind of sane, balanced opinion.

Your world is getting smaller and smaller.

Thankfully, there are a handful of YouTube reviewers that give us the straight scoop. I was especially impressed by Chris Stuckmann. He seems to be really a devoted fan to movies and dives deep into why he gives the movie an A-F:

film critics are getting very bad now. many of them seek to be twitter famous and get loads of followers/likes and to do that they have to go big on all the far left stuff and then that seeps into their reviews.

reply

Simple. The haters are a loud and obnoxious minority. We see it in many films that many people love.

Another example is Avatar. Great box office, good reviews and good user ratings. Yet when you go to the boards, it is a hatefest.

So, don’t let these comments here serve as an example of what most people think.

Really? Just do a search for "Terminator Dark Fate review" on YouTube and see what the various established YouTube channels are saying. These are not obnoxious trolls who disrupt websites, nor professional critics, they are just impartial fans who give good and bad feedback over a wide variety of different films. Check out the ratio of positive to negative reviews. I noticed the ONLY YouTube personality that gave it a good review was Angry Joe. I also noted that he had an ad for PRODUCTS related to the movie (a life-sized exoskeleton) during the video. Hmmm...

Stuff like that makes me really question the "85% favorable" score from audiences that RT is reporting...

reply

After the recent Dave Chappelle rotten tomatoes BS, does anyone think RT is legit anymore? When you have a 0% critics score, and 99% audience score, it's hard to take them seriously.

reply

I think this is what Hollywood wanted:
1. Their crappy movies get certified fresh no matter what..this allows that all important first week to plow through unhindered by RT.
2. In other words, RT is now solely a promotional tool used by Hollywood.

reply

Yup.

RT is fake news.
