Sad this wasn't a summer movie...
It was the summer of 1991. I was a basketball-and-movie loving 16 year old growing up in beautiful SE Michigan. And the Terminator 2 was arriving in theaters on 4th of July weekend that year! What a weekend it was. Sun, fun and Arnold in his prime! I've forgotten a lot of trivial things over the years...but I still recall seeing a photo on the front page of Friday's USA Today with Arnold holding a weapon (they were running an article that weekend hyping the release) and how excited that made me feel about the upcoming movie, weekend and summer.
I seen a similar photo today of an advertisement with Arnold on it...and as you can tell, it got me feeling a bit melancholy. Maybe it made me wish I was young again. But more than anything, I asked...WHY wasn't this a summer movie? I feel robbed in a way...I should have gotten to experience one last 4th of July weekend with Arnold in a Terminator movie! Everything about this series screams "Summer Blockbuster" -- the CGI, Arnold, action movie, big budget, sunny scenery in the trailers, etc, etc. This should have been released on the 4th of July, no?
Why do you think it was release on Halloween? Seems like an odd choice to me. They have Arnold back, they have Linda Hamilton back...heck they've even got Edward Furlong back. James Cameron signing off on the script with a decent sized budget. This should have been a summer movie! What happened? They've just given up on the Terminator being a tentpole franchise?
