This is great news!

Based on what.

It had a $200 million budget and $100 million marketing. So again rule of thumb double it for break even.

They will only receive 50-70% domestic takings and between 20-40% international. No China release.

So how is $500 million a huge hit?

reply

At $500 everybody gets paid! The studio own the marketing department, the wheels keep turning, another movie is planned for release.
Who is not paid ? Outside investors, product placement reach fewer people etc.
Its Hollywood financing. They have been doing this for years.

reply

Every movie ever the cast and crew and people involved get paid, it's included in the budget. What has that to do with anything.

At it's current box office it is on track to lose money so not a hit.

It needs about 600 million to break even. Possibly more as they did promote the hell out of this film.

Can this be repeated in English please

You seem to have forgotten that Black Panther 2 comes out in 4 days. Black Adam isn't going to make much more once that movie is in theaters.

reply

$450m is pretty bad though, correct? That only beats "Shazam!" and "Birds of Prey" for modern DC movies. "Wonder Woman 1984" and "Suicide Squad 2021" don't count as they were simultaneously released at theaters and on HBO Max.

I find it hard to believe that the Rock doesn't want to crossover with Shazam when they are from the exact same comic continuity.

I saw the movie today. Black Adam as the anti-hero proantagonist didn't bring anything new to the super hero genre. As loud and explosiony as expected with some dodgy flying effects. The Justice Society were kind of interesting, I don't want to see them in their own movie but having them back in some other project might be nice. The visualization of Tornado Girl's power was a little weird.

Regardless of the Box Office, I like this movie and wish there wasn't so much hate thrown at it.

reply

There isn't "so much hate" for this film outside of a few internet trolls.

Audience scores are excellent and this super hold on it's third weekend indicates this thing is gonna be around for a long time.

reply

Well thanks. It's mainly that the majority of the comments on this board are people saying the movie sucked.

reply

That's because the majority of people on here are trolls.
