Huge drop, not looking good and its actually 69% , another flop from WB, how many is that this year?

Halloween weekends are never a major box office event, but this weekend is worse than usual in both absolute and relative terms, with an overall box office of just $66 million, down significantly from last weekend’s $114 million. Black Adam retained the top spot with a $28 million gross, down 59% from the opening, while the sole newcomer Prey for the Devil saw a soft $7 million opening.

The movie is being released in China?? It has been written in many sites the movie would not get a release. Great if it does. Would like it to do well over there.

Its not really strong. It only made 67 mil to begin with. Its not as bad as it could have been, but it could have certainly been better. The film overall is unfortunately stuck with that 200 mil production budget. Its underperforming as far as what WB would have wanted. Its overseas is not huge either, so it will be interesting to see where this film finishes.

This is a classic Queen trolling tactic that has FAILED every time you've tried...its a last ditch attempt to troll by claiming "its going to have great legs" once you've seen early box office result are terrible...lol you failed miserably when you tried with JL and again when you tried it with PR2...

Black Adam is certain to be yet another money-losing endeavor from DC. Break down the numbers, then realize Black Panther is about to dominate the box office, and it looks dismal for Black Adam.

Production Budget: $200 million
Marketing Budget: $100 million.
Total Budget: $300 million.

Domestic Gross: Studio keeps about 52%: $64.2 million of $123.6 million
International Gross: Studio keeps about 42%: $58.5 million of $139.3 million
China Gross: Studio keeps 25%: None

Total profit so far: just under $123 million

That leaves Black Adam needing to profit another $177 million to break even. I don't see any way this film even makes it to $300 million and breaks even.

Interesting theory. Some research tells me that brands pay studios $40k to $300k per year to have their products included in multiple films, so it seems your $100 million is closer to $500k.

Currently, Avengers: Endgame is the American film that made the most money in China, where it brought in $629 million. $157 million of that went back to the studio. Black Adam is going to need to do similar numbers there if China is going to save this flop.

It's not a flop, but it might not live up to It's expectations. I'm not sure comparing it to one of the biggest movies in history is fair. It will ultimately be profitable, but I'm sure they were hoping for more. The mid October release is beyond my understanding.

I wasn't comparing it to Endgame, I was doing the opposite: pointing out that Endgame made more in China than any other American film ever has, and that it's unreasonable to expect Black Adam to do similar.

If you believe studios are spending $100 million or more to market a film one can only assume you own about half a dozen Brooklyn Bridges by now.

Set him straight on the reality? 25-40mil to market is the "accepted math" you said back then, against all reports of more, but you accept 100mil from the OP now?? Gee, I wonder why? I guess marketing costs fluctuate depending on which movie you're trying to prop up or put down. lol

No one, other than the OP, has any agenda here. He constantly posts like this, so I took a moment to point out that he is, again, trolling. Part of me thinks he posts the way he does on purpose, thinking he's some sort of comedic troll genius-- that in his mind he's the Andy Kaufman of Moviechat-- but mostly I think he's some Asperger-y DC fan who actually believes what he writes.

As for correcting him, look at his loooong history on this site. He's been corrected pretty much every time, but continues to post "This one is shaping up to be a BIG hit" on every DC film, no matter how it's doing, and "Another Flop Incoming!" for every Disney film. So yeah, we could tell him, yet again, "no, you're wrong," but it seemed like providing actual numbers was the way to go.

Ive known queen for a long time, hates disney for some reason but has a massive hard on for WB and animation studios if a disney movie made for 200 million it needs to make a billion to break even, if a WB movie made for 200 million its hot hot hot and only needs to make 400 million, remember the time when queen said endgame was flopping after it had a 65% weekend drop and was the highest grossing movie ever lol great times.
