Much Better than Creed I

I thought this was much better than the first Creed. Maybe it was because of all the nostalgic references and links to Rocky IV; I just felt like this was a much better story and told in a better way. Creed had too many moments that tried to mirror Rocky I and II exactly, but not so much here. I also thought MBJ's acting in this was much better than the first. Maybe I liked it more because the villain was given a great backstory. Additionally this is the first time that the villain got some type of redemption. Overall a great addition to the Rocky series, but I'm not sure where they can go with the next one unless it is a rematch of the rematch with Viktor.

I like it, but I feel they created a problem for themselves if they want to make another one. It's clear they're trying to make this the end of Rocky's journey and Stallone has even said he's done. But these Creed movies lean on Rocky far too much to have another one stand on its own, especially with this one working the Rocky nostalgia even more than the last movie. I could be wrong, and I'd be willing to give the next one a shot. But they'd really need to work some magic to make Adonis stand on his own without Rocky.

I know Stallone said he is done, but my guess is that Rocky will appear only as a brief cameo in the next installment. I would watch the next one just because I'm a fan of boxing and the Rocky series, but like I said, I have no idea where they could go with the story. Creed has established his own legacy by becoming champ and then beat the hardest opponent he will ever face. I guess maybe if they wait 15 years for MBJ to age, then he could have a comeback story??

I thought they were close but Creed 2 was very nostalgic.

I loved this film and agree, much much better than the first Creed film though I liked that as well. What I liked:

- loved the concept of Creed vs Drago fight with Lundgren, and Nelson as an extra
-I loved how the first CvD fight was shot, I like the exaggerated film shots and slow mo of the original films because it leant a heightened sense of reality, and this filming style gave me back that feeling of heightened surreal sense of the Rocky saga
-I loved Jordan's acting here, especially when he was on that hospital bed, the raw vulnerability, shame, and insecurity was palpable from him and he was fantastic in delivering that arc to his character. His abilities as an actor is really highlighted in this film
-I like the Victor and Ivan dynamic, their backstory, bond and the redemptive feature you mentioned as well
-Loved the Rocky theme used at the last fight, just gave me goose bumps. I was so happy like a little kid!

I just finished watching this and plan on doing a marathon tomorrow of all Rocky and Creed films!

I gave this a 9/10.

I liked Creed I better.

I liked the idea of this illegitimate son of Apollo Creed trying to make his way up and I liked the B-story of his falling in love with Bianca.

Frankly the movie was pretty boring. At least Creed 1 had more Rocky in it to make up for its dull protagonist.

reply

not really. the first Creed told a fairly realistic story. this one dragged and dragged and was too predictable. he's the heavyweight champion, he can't just stroll down the street without a bodyguard and without people recognizing him. and they never mentioned how much bank he would make on the pay-per-view from the second fight. and if they hadn't dragged out the boring parts, they could have spliced in an entertaining tune-up fight which he definitely would have booked after such a drubbing.

I liked both. The great thing is we got three straight great movies in the Rocky verse. I was very happy with it....

Both were cool, liked the first more....the second, only watched once, don’t remember much other than the main shyt....a little light on memorable scenes that didn’t involve a nostalgic twist, which looks like what Creed installments will be once Balboa is inevitably done....

Don’t know if that’ll work, but I’ll watch, maybe just go all cartoon like the Rocky series after 2 and get Clubber Lang’s son, then Buddy Shaw’s kid— Apollo called Shaw scared when he was looking for a fight before he got Balboa....Joe Frazier wanted that smoke (no pun), maybe Marvis has a kid and Smokin’ Joe’s grandson can get some...
