Anybody that knows anything about boxing knows the tactics Rocky had Adonis employ were the exact opposite of what a trainer would have a fighter do in this matchup. Adonis moves up from light heavy to heavy. He was fighting a man much much larger and stronger. Adonis’ advantages were speed and quickness. What does Rocky have him do to “turn the tables”? Trains him to stand his ground and plant one foot in the center of the ring and trade bombs in close quarters?! WTF. NO! They clearly think the average viewer is a moron. Which is probably true. What would really happen in this sort of matchup is smaller, faster fighter would be on the move on the outside at all times, jabbing, moving, negating. Trying to avoid a brawl. NOT instigate one. Truly ridiculous. But as I said the average viewer doesn’t understand this and that’s ok. It’s a movie and it hits the right emotional notes.

All Drago's son would need to do is walk backwards and jab. He had the reach and power advantage.

However, that would have been a boring film. It's not about treating the viewer like an idiot. It's about making the fight cinematic.

You clearly know nothing about boxing strategy. Staying away and trying to outpoint the much bigger man using speed would’ve been his only possible path to victory. A guy who is 5’11 175 lbs in real life isn’t brawling a guy who is 6’4 250. And you kinda make my point. If he could turn Viktor into just a long range jabber that would be a win in that he would throw less vicious hooks in close quarters as the bigger stronger man. But you are correct in that it would’ve been boring to use spoiling tactics. Like a Floyd Mayweather fight. But yes it’s a movie.

Your “walk backwards” comment is lunacy. A vicious killer like that who is the much stronger man isn’t fighting off the backfoot against a much smaller guy. IF he did he would be doing a favor to the little man by not stalking him and imposing his will.

HUH?! When did Lennox Lewis fight a guy who was 5’11 175 lbs?! You think he would be backing up and jabbing against a guy that small? Just stop it. Michael B Jordan in real life would fight at super middleweight.

It's a movie. You seem to be keen to prove you are smarter than a piece of pop cultural entertainment and "the average viewer".

David Tua was over 240 lbs and was a bomber, perhaps you missed the "175 lbs" part? For the 3rd time, Adonis Creed is the size of a super middleweight.

I understand its a movie. I've said that. I dont understand why you're trying to make real correlations to real boxing that dont exist. You're bringing up guys that fought against other heavyweights. Just agree with the point and move on. You're arguing for the sake of arguing.

True, but since when has the actual boxing in the Rocky series ever been realistic?

This is true but in the 70s and 80s you expect that sort of ridiculousness. In Rocky Balboa he tried to “go realistic” with the final fight. For the record it didn’t feel like a Rocky fight to me. Then for Creed 2 they just went back to the old formula of a smaller man fighting a guy 70 lbs heavier (and basically 3 weight classes if you want to be particular).

Well, the average viewer of this most likely won't know sh*t about boxing. Half the "fans" on boxing forums don't even know boxing. The typical square watching this movie won't know what they're watching.
