Good but disappointing

This film was good but also disappointing at the same time. I’d give it a 7/10. ‘Homecoming’ is better in my opinion. However Tobey Maguire’s ‘Spider-Man 2’ is still the best Spidey film to date in my opinion. What do you guys think?

I wanted to love it, but I thought it was just fine. I thought the school trip around Europe was a nice change. The action was good. I can't quite figure out what it is about the movie that just didn't work for me. I liked Homecoming more, also.

The Sam Raimi trilogy is still superior..despite my issues with Spiderman 3, I kinda like it more than Homecoming and Far From Home, mainly because it is purely a Spiderman movie and not tied to the MCU

Perfect Response at least 3 has some redeeming qualities.

Same here. It had the action, the jokes, the twists, Spidey doing amazing things. And yet, something about this movie didn't feel satisfying. I had a fairly good time but maybe because this movie grossed over $1billion, I came in expecting this to be one of the top tier Spider-Man films. I also thought Homecoming was better.

I think one problem I had was the main Peter and MJ romance. I found her character way too off-putting and just never believed Peter would fall so madly in love with her. Had they shared a few nice moments together in Homecoming, that would be one thing. But from what I remember, she spent all of that film clowning Peter and Ned too, basically calling them losers.

No

Disagree 1000%.
(I’ve noticed a good but disappointing pattern with you btw. Hmm.) The action in Far From Home alone is miles ahead of what Homecoming had to offer and it easily gives Raimi’s overpraised sequel... oooh... a run for its money. The characters were also more fleshed out in FFH and the visuals were better than ever.

Disappointing... not one f’n bit. Nuff said.

I agree. Granted I never saw Homecoming but when I watched this one, I just didn’t care for it that much. Sure it had some good stuff. I liked Gyllenhaal and Holland was good as the more youthful Spider-Man, but I didn’t care for the youthfulness of the whole movie. So maybe I’m out of touch. But the goofy teen drama seemed out of place for the MCU. I mean what was the point of Pete’s best friend hooking up with the blonde? Just to give ol dude a subplot?

And the whole MCU storyline is played out. Just seems like the same stuff everytime. Insecure hero with some skills has powers that he struggles with. The villain is some dude who is close to the hero but turned bad cause he got screwed over somehow. There’s a girl who challenges the hero’s faults, and in so many ways is superior to the hero. Always has to show him up somehow. Hero has a close call with the villain but with some help turns out alright in the end.

And yeah Raimi’s movies have a similar plot, but with Raimi’s style, it was funny, awkward, strange, and unique. And the themes are played out more seriously I think. With the music and dialogue, everything just seemed grander. And look, I saw Raimi’s movies when I was hitting puberty, saw them all in theaters, and it was just the best.

SO, new Spidey is good, but I just don’t care for it all that much when comparing to Raimi’s.
