The only way Sony could redeem this...

...would be by bringing back Tobey Maguire for nostalgia. It doesn’t seem like they can keep Tom Holland, and recasting Spider-Man AGAIN would probably piss everyone off. Nobody really wants to see Garfield reprise the role, even though he is a great actor. A new Maguire Spider-Man might bring people back solely for nostalgia’s sake. It doesnt even have to be a Spider-Man 4, just a new Spider-Man adventure with Maguire.

reply

You're wrong. I'd like to see Garfield reprise the role. Also Tobey is too old and I doubt he wants to work with Sony anyway because of them forcing Raimi to include the Symbiote story in Spider-Man 3. I also doubt he wants to be in Sony's Venom movies.

reply

Tobey is too old to play Spider-Man. he's in his 40's now.

reply

Robert Downey Jr was in his 40s when he played Iron Man. Hugh Jackman was in his 40s for most of his time as Wolverine. Chris Hemsworth is almost 40 and he’s set to do more Thor films.

Yeah. But the big difference is all of those characters already look like they're close to 40 both in movies and comics. Spider-Man/Peter Parker is supposed to look younger though.

reply

Tobey Maguire has always looked young. He can pass for a 30 year old guy, no problem.

reply

Yeah, but Spider-Man was meant to be a teenager, or at least a young adult.

reply

616 Spidey has been depicted as late 20's for a few decades now. Maguire easily passes for that age range.

reply

Then they could do a Loganesque film and make a darker spiderman in his older years film with TM now thats a film id love to see!

reply

Basically the first Spider-Man in Into the Spider-verse animated movie. I think that character was supposed to be the Tobey's version.

reply

I feel like a movie about an aging Peter Parker could be interesting. Some have tossed around the term “Loganesque” and I think it could work. I’m sure Sam Raimi would absolutely be on board with a darker Spider-Man movie.

reply

Holland is out as well? Maybe this cloud does have a silver lining after all.

reply

I don't think so. Not sure why everybody's been assuming they'd be rebooting.

reply

I'm curious what direction they'll go but I have to agree with those that have said they have no interest in seeing the character rebooted again. The Holland version of the character has such strong ties to the MCU that I wonder if they would be allowed to keep all aspects of the character intact. For example I can't imagine they'd be able to mention Tony Stark or Happy Hogan, or the Avengers. That may lead to non-descript conversations like:

Peter: "Look Aunt May, I'm sorry it didn't work out with-"
Aunt May: (cutting him off) "Do not say his name!"

reply

Exactly. Most people think the role is being recast. I mean, Holland Spider-Man is so grounded within the MCU that it would be too strange to make a movie without mentioning any Marvel character. How could they continue Holland’s story without Fury or any Avenger? It only makes sense that they’d start from square one with a new actor, which is a horrible idea.

reply

Well now that i've seen the movie, I really don't see how they could keep Holland in the role. This is no casual integration. They firmly entrenched both the MCU and this version of Spider-Man together.

reply

Then they could do a 'Loganesque' film and make a darker spiderman in his older years film with Tobey Maguire now thats a film id love to see!

reply

NOBODY WANTS TOBEY BACK...YUCK..GARFIELD IS WORSE....ITS TOM HOLLAND OR BUST.

reply

"GARFIELD IS WORSE". I second that. Lol.

reply

I like Garfield more than Tobey but just like with Tobey I doubt he'd want to come back since he quit because of Sony's forcing things into Amazing Spider-Man 2.
