It's a bit sweet but has yet again a very low key villain

Not really worth the price of admittance. too
The Dutch hooligans were a nice touch though. And Nick Fury is, sorry to say, WAY beyond his prime and should retire.

All in all a teen oriented movie and a really crappy ending of phase III with too much Tony Stark commemmoration.

reply

Obviously you didn’t watch the movie.

reply

I wondered the same thing. A low-key villain? Teen-oriented?

Far From Home is one of the best superhero films I've ever seen, with a horrifying, menacing villain, and is geared towards adults and teens alike.

reply

I agree...and am replying to you in particular because of your use of "horrifying", which has to be the best descriptor for what it felt seeing Spidey getting his ass kicked the way he was with all those illusions.
Yeah, this was a great villain, and although I've heard it said that the stakes were low as compared to other Avenger movies, they weren't for Spidey and therefore weren't for me. His best friend and girlfriend'd lives were at stake...that was enough IMO.

Drones, a lightshow and a suicide? (well, it WAS his own spreeing drone) What a super villain! And since the movie is mostly about Parker wanting to get closer to MJ in the face of some tall competition (with a sideline of Hogan dating May and his friend dating a blonde) is 100% for teens and their stumbling uncertainty.
But watch it yourself by all means if you want! It's just not such a great ending to Phase III in my book.

reply

I watched it last night, and loved it. I'm going to try to catch it again this week. I found Mysterio to be one of the best villains we've seen in the MCU, and this film is certainly among my favorites in the series. I'd add that romantic subplots don't make a movie oriented towards teens, and the romance between Peter and MJ was heartfelt, and seemed real. I'm long out of my teens, and found it very emotional. To each his own, but I thought it was a great finale to th 23-movie series, and the mid- and post-credits scenes left me eager to see where they go from here.

reply

Well, it could have been a lot worse. It's not a bad movie. I just don't find it very good or memorable. And it's the closing movie of Phase III so I found that aspect lacking.

reply

Completely disagree. This was a strong CBM and Mysterio is definitely among the better villains of the MCU. I just hope they find a way to bring him back which definitely seems possible considering the nature of who he is.

reply

Wherever there's a buck, there's a way!

reply

The movies will go on with or without Mysterio. You wouldn't factor him into the money-making ability of these movies if you honestly believed he was a lackluster character as your OP suggests.

reply

Hence my wherever, dude.

reply

The movie is doing well among audiences and critics. Sorry you got stuck as one of the very few who think its not worth the price of admission. Better luck next time I guess.

reply

It is doing well. Better luck next time indeed.

reply

Also, clearly did not watch after credits 😂

reply

Correct about that at least. Hmm, the Skrull thing does kind of excuse the lame Fury appearance indeed.

reply

What was lame about Fury?

I immediately noticed Maria Hill correcting him on whether he suspected Beck or not - clearly out of character for her. It's in character for Soren, Talos's wife, but I confess I didn't make that leap.

Fury seemed a bit low-level, but that's to be expected after five years out of the loop

I suppose it was also out of character for Fury to tolerate Peter's "ghosting" as long as he did - makes sense that Talos wouldn't want to be too hard on Peter, being a dad himself

EDIT: I just remembered, he and Hill/Soren were talking about the Kree at one point. Another clue I missed
