Mysterio is a good guy from an alternate universe? Nawwww, he can't be. Can he? I mean, it's not without precedent-- it was Mysterio who found a way to bridge the gap and travel between between the "regular" Marvel universe and the Ultimate Marvel universe-- so it makes sense he'd be the one to do likewise in the MCU. Or it could all be illusion trickeration. Maybe the Chameleon is playing pretend like he's someone he ain't? We'll find out soon!

Mysterio is obviously a bad guy posing as a good guy. That's his MO. My guess is that he's just a dude from New York who is using Chitauri tech (likely supplied by the Tinkerer) to create the illusion that there is an invasion from another realm.

I wish that the movies would stop connecting the villains to Peter's personal life, though. While the comics overdid it a bit as well, the movies have taken it to a ridiculous degree. There is not a single villain in any of the movies that hasn't had a connection to Spider-Man on one level or another with the exception of the Rhino who was just a cameo villain for ASM2.

Do you think Mysterio will be connected to Peter's personal life in some way? I'm trying to recall the connections between Peter and Sandman and Electro. Also, that's an aspect of the comics that annoys me. Seemingly everyone in Peter's life is a superhero or villain in some capacity. The coincidences get tiring after awhile.

Mysterio is meeting Peter as a fellow hero and, if the trailers are anything to go by, gives him dating advice. It seems like they're gonna make him a mentor to replace Tony and when Peter finds out he's evil, it'll be a big shocking reveal. I could be dead wrong on this but that appears to be the direction.

As for the other movie bad guys having personal connections:

Sandman killed Uncle Ben. As for Electro, he worked with Gwen at Oscorp and part of his turn to evil even involved a weird obsession with Spider-Man after he saved his life. He even got pissed that he forgot his name.

And yeah, the comics did this but not nearly to the same extent as the movies or even the cartoons.
