Y'all extra af

The book that this movie is based off of came out before, so there is no way this could even BE a copy of your sorry excuse of an anime.
There also is a gay erotica series also called "Love on Ice" about hockey players who fall in love.
How about trying to do some research before bashing a movie that hasn't even come out.

Also, Kubo even said that Love on Ice isn't even a copy, maybe your should listen to your "sensei" and calm down.

First of all, no need to be rude. Insulting people/what they like won't do any good and is just unnecessary.

Second of all: Which book is this movie based on exactly? There are two books called "Love on Ice" that came out before "Yuri!!! on Ice" and there isn't anything in the trailer or iMDb page about a novel. Or at least there wasn't when all these discussion boards were made.

Given that Hallmark wasn't very clear on where the idea came from, the short production time, Love on Ice being released shortly after the season finale of YoI, a lot of YoI fans being younger, and YoI is the first piece of media (apart from maybe the Winter Olympics) to feature figure skating as a subject for many people this reaction isn't entirely unjustified or irrational.

The petition to take down the movie was going way overboard, I'll give you that, but concerns over plagiarism? Not nearly as far fetched. Hey, for all we know Hallmark os probably happy this happened. If YoI fans hadn't made such big deal about their low-budget TV movie being similar to another popular show, it wouldn't be nearly as well known as it is now. They probably appreciate all the free publicity.

Maybe Hallmark can use this as a lesson to include what their movies are based on in the trailer in the future, as is the case with practically every other movie based on a novel. Or they can just keep doing what they're doing and rake in the free publicity.

Personally, I don't think the movie will be worth watching whether your a Yuri on Ice fan or not. It's a 90 minute TV movie made by a greeting card company in under 3 months, with one of the most generic plots available and nothing to help it stand out. How great can it really be?

I'm sorry, but you are mistaken that YOI is the only media outside the Olymics to feature figure skating. Ice Castles came out in 1978 featuring the love story between a skater and coach. There was the Cutting Edge in 1992, followed by the Cutting Edge 2 and 3, Ice Princess (2005), the 2010 remake of Ice Castles, Champions: A Love Story (1979), Ice Dreams (2010), and the ludicrous Blades of Glory, to name a few. This doesn't include the half dozen or so Christmas movies I watched last month that have figure skating a part of the plot. Incidentally, doesn't the name of the ice rink in Yuri start with the words "Ice Castle"?

I forgot to mention I'd never even heard of YOI, until I came to the board tonight when watching the movie, and I'd be willing to bet 99.9% of Hallmark fans haven't either. I found it a little surprising that there was such an uproar over a fairly common and regurgitated plot. Not to be unkind, but I doubt the controversy has made a bit of difference to whether people watch the movie or not because the only people aware of it were the YOI fans, and I'm pretty certain the intersection between anime fans and Hallmark fans is pretty minuscule.
