"Plinko" wasn't an original game developed by TPIR. It's a game from the 1920s, at least. They just came up with the name and the concept of allowing contestants to get chips based on guessing prices of products.
Edit: The origins of the game goes back to 1984. The concept is based on a "bean machine."
