Fake

Seriously, the acting on this show is soap opera-level. No one acts this way in real life. This is fake.

Seriously, the contestants are clearly expressing genuine reactions to having won or lost money. For dramatic effect, producers obviously tell them to talk about their life struggles, and to cause suspense, to slowly tell rather they signed the contract or not, don't just go out and say it. Because that makes for more suspense and engaging television. Doesn't mean the emotions they are feeling in this situation aren't genuine. It's the same reason why on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire they verbally say their entire though process, even though if you're taking the SAT or something you aren't going to do that.

There's this mindset that because some reality shows are scripted, staged, etc. that all must be. It's actually illegal to stage game shows. It's this one-sided thought process that just bugs me sometimes. I had someone claim Big Brother is completely staged and fabricated even though there are 24/7 live feeds that are broadcast on the internet. Anyone who watches those feeds, will know that the editing process can be deceiving in some ways, or out of context, but it's all out in the open because of those live feeds.

reply

It's illegal to stage the outcome but not the rest of it

reply

But what's the indication that it's actually staged? If you found IMDB profiles with these folks on other shows or something, that would be one thing.

reply

And if they were actually actors struggling to find work, who cares?

A lot of actors appeared on game shows when they were starting out.

Fun fact: new game shows often get contestants by putting out open "casting" calls in local ads. Who has time to go audition for a game show? A lot of times, it's out of work actors in between jobs.

But there's no evidence any of the contestants are/were actors. But if they were, there's no further evidence that it's "fake" and the results are staged.

reply

It's fake. It's scripted for sure.

reply

It's not fake. It's not scripted for sure.

reply

I seriously doubt it's scripted, but it's highly produced and I have no doubt the director coaches contestants to act in a certain way. Then it's edited for broadcast in a certain way.

reply

Seriously....YES! The more I see this show the more these people are actors. A lot of court shows and game shows hire actors.

reply

I think they are very picky and only pick the ones with a good sob story and can act ok actors with sob stories.

Yes and no. I agree that many of the players on these prime-time game shows are actors. But, they are not actors paid to read a script, they are regular players that happen to have careers as actors, like some people are plumbers, teachers, or truck drivers.

The difference is that the producers like to select contestants that happen to be actors because those actors already know how to play it up big for the cameras. They know how to react on cue and are more than willing to ham it up to put it on their resume.

But, the game is not faked.
