So then...an extended edition of Plinko.

Real original LeBron. An extended version of the Price is Right game Plinko. Real original. I will not be watching, don't mess with the original and next time come up with an original suggestion.

reply

Thought the exact same thing. A ripoff of Plinko.

Original ideas are risky. This is just a cheap, quick and easy mid-season filler for whatever Fall show they're cancelling. One actor/presenter, one set, no scripts. Put together a few episodes and on the off-chance it sticks, you can make more but if it doesn't you're not losing much money.

With a prize of $12 million on the line, it may not be a cheap show.

It's statistically improbable that anyone will come anywhere close to $12 million

reply

The first show the contestants won $1.3 million and at one point had a total of $1.65 million.

It took Ken Jennings 74 wins on Jeopardy (+ $2000 for 2nd place on his 75th game) (June 02 to November 30th, 2004) to win a little less than twice the amount that the two contestants last night won in 1 hr. Not including his return appearances, he won $2,522,700. It took him 38 games to equal what they won last night on The Wall

So even though $12 million is nearly impossible it has already been proven that contestants can win big money on this show.

I don't know what they have to say. It makes no difference anyway. Whatever it is, I'm against it.

Do you know how much more expensive it is to shoot and run a scripted show vs. almost any kind of reality/game show? You have a team of writers to pay, and the actors are almost always much more expensive. That's the whole reason TV had an explosion of reality and game shows in the '00s, before people finally got sick of watching them (for the most part).

Not if that quiz show is going to cost $1.3 million per episode ... or up to $12 million.

$1.3mil is still less than half the cost of a low-end scripted TV episode and it wouldn't surprise me if they showed some of their bigger winners in the first few episodes to draw an audience.

Only the name Plinko originated with The Price is Right. The game itself dates back to at least the 1920s under the name Pachinko.

So even the Price is Right wasn't original in the use of this game.

If The Wall had actually called it "Plinko", then it would be a rip-off.

Thank you for this.

Most games shows are based on existing games. Wheel of Fortune, for example, was based on Hangman.

reply

The moment that I saw this game show promoted, I said to myself "this is the
Price is Right Plinko Game on Steroids; and "I wonder what the producers of
"The Price Is Right think about this?"

I don't think this show will last long

reply

I'm sure that the producers of The Price is Right are perfectly happy for the show. It doesn't take anything away from their show and probably gives them a boost from the free media attention.

It looks like it but it really is much different... but it is boring as hell.
