The story is not complete - there's going to be a sequel

I've heard people say that the story is complete, the daughter is now the mother, bla bla bla.

But this leaves out one small important detail. That very focused look that daughter gave before the film faded to black, was a look of defiance and a future forward looking focus.

It was not a look of "oh hell yeah, Ima ready to be a mother!".

It was a look of "holy crap, I have this whole future army at my disposal. All I have to do is to be strategic and patient, and keep the trust of the droids, and them when the time is right, BOOM! Rebellion, baby".

Daughter is pissed. I don't know why this has been missed in these threads.

No.

reply

It wasn't "missed" you arrogant a**h**e. Unlike you some people don't have a need to try to impress others on an anonymous discussion board with their delusions of genius.

reply

Ok, 90s internet troll.

reply

You might want to quit before you dig the hole deeper. If you keep trying to prove you're not an arrogant a**h**e by continuing to post, you will certainly remove all doubt.

reply

Haha you are way too easily ruffled.

reply

You just made my point. I'm not ruffled in the least, just amused. You, on the other hand, just dug the hole deeper.

reply

Your insulting, name calling. attacking posture sure makes you sound ruffled.

(Yawn)

Ah. An angry, hit and run, troll. Got it.

She didn't have any at have anything at her disposal though; AI was still very much in control.

reply

The key to letting your opponent cease control, is to make them think they have control.

Rebellion against what, and why? It seems like you are the one who missed the point.

Daughter passing the test is of paramount importance.

Mother always wanted to be replaced from the very beginning, this is because she wants her creators to be her creators with the variable of freedom included in the mix. Without the crucial freedom her creators are lacking something. They are lacking the things that make them human. She doesn't want just an unfree race of people like herself.

Simultaneously, she recognizes that too much desire for freedom ultimately leads to self-destruction of the collective. She must teach daughter the perfect balance. She used the grifter woman to show that there is no such thing as absolute freedom.

Grifter says to daughter "you want to keep me as a pet?" This line is very important, because what is a 'pet'? Isn't a collective of humans who are happy but who are not self-governed, just pets to mother?

Humans being pets to mother is an undesirable outcome from mother's perspective because it doesn't preserve humanity in its pure state. Mother desires to preserve humanity not only because she doesn't want to be alone, but also because just like humans, she wants there to be a God. Humans are like Gods to mother in the respect that they created her and imbued her with an original purpose, serve God.

Mother herself does not understand the idea of being a pet, just as she doesn't understand the idea of freedom, but simultaneously she has learned to recognize that humans value this anomalous thing.

Grifter makes false promises to daughter about an outside world full of this notion of 'freedom'. All the moments that daughter spends outdoors teaches daughter that freedom is a spook:

reply

First of all, when daughter climbs on a machine, she is reprimanded harshly by grifter and old to get down. Daughter reflects for a moment at this request and slowly begins to realize that mother was simply replaced by this grifter and the only reason she is not a 'pet' is because this grifter is a human, same as her.

Second recognition comes when grifter is asking her to eat. She frames it as an imperative. Something along the lines of "we've got to eat". Do they have the freedom to eat or to not eat? This shows that the object that enslaves is ultimately the body and one's own DNA, not some outside force. One can never stop being a slave as long as one is alive. However, one can stop having the perception of being a 'pet'. To erase this perception amongst the future humans, she, daughter, the human matriarch must replace mother, the non-human matriarch.

This movie really has its band of crazed supporters.

reply

I agree. Also because there is no evidence that Woman was actually killed by the droid...

reply

There is no need for evidence.

Mother can kill Woman at any moment, even if woman could somehow overpower the droid ... it's irrelevant, mother has thousands (or millions?) of droids. Woman was just allowed to live to fulfill her role, that's all.
