Who created 'Mother'??

She simply referred to them a "the creator". It seemed to me, for all intents and purposes, she could have simply been a robot off an automobile assembly line. The crux is she became sentient and created the entire doomsday scheme to destroy mankind and repopulate the planet with her stored babies. The purpose was to create a perfect world where humans are self sacrificing for one another. Now, what I didn't understand is she said she "must" do this to "be like her creator." Humans who are self-sacrificing are few and far between but seems there was an inference to Jesus in how she taught religion to Hillary Swank when she was raising her to test the new girl. To me it came across very strong that the destruction and re population of humans was a self imposed directive instead of one given to her by her creator. She proved her devotion to self-sacrifice at the end - it made sense - the girl had passed her test and the world could be trusted to her.

She was created by humans that left her incharge of embryos in the event of an extinction level event. She was was supposed activatee during an emergency and grow the embryos once the earth was able to sustain life again. Only she her self caused the exinction level evemt. Its akin to a life raft going heywire and crashing the boat causing it to sink. Our backup plane became our end plan.

Was a while since I watched the movie, how did it show that Mother caused the extinction?

Just realized how that "self sacrifice" is actually tied to Jesus "self sacrifice". They both "sacrificed" just a vessel and nothing more.

But now, the perfect world was not where humans were sacrificing one for another but one in which human life has no inherent value and a human has value based on his actions and skills. Anyone is expendable if not useful to society. That was the girl question and conclusion "isn't the doctor's life more valuable than the lives of 5 criminals?"
