Masterpiece villain portrait

This film is everything W should have been and much more.
It shows what people were behind the facts in an unbiased satire.
It builds a mesmerizing narrative around one of the great villains of our time, and manages to do so notwithstanding how boring a character he is.
It's only limited by the material, but it would be unfair to expect more universal insight while staying this close to the real story. It's no Shakespeare, but that's not needed for such a small man.

I really can't watch political bios knowing of the inherent bias against Republicans in Hollywood.

I don't think it's that unfairly biased against one side or the other.

I agree, it would be better if that bias was not there, but what can we do?
Also, anybody talking about anything inherinently has an opinion on the subject (be it positive, negative or neutral it's still an opinion). It goes with the territory of real events and people, even more so if they are political figures. Cannot take that away in any way.

This one clearly sees Cheney as a villain and war criminal, Bush as an idiot in the wrong place, etc. I think it's pretty close to reality, probably a bit too gentle in considering them that naive or simpleminded (they knew exactly what they were doing), but that's my opinion.
How far off is it from reality? It's in the eye of the beholder.

Hollywood IS bias. It is the bastion of progressive thinking in America (Just watch the Oscars for proof). Millions of people have to work in that town, so 'groupthink' takes over. Anybody without the name Clint Eastwood who has conservative views is shunned.

What is the effect of this? Highly critical films about Republican leaders are made with A list celebrities and well written scripts while Hollywood ignores the few writers that are stupid enough to write scripts critical of Democratic Presidents.

With the criticism from the right about Obama and Clinton ask yourself why hasn't a A list celebrity and movie critical about them appeared?

I'm sure there are over 100 scripts in the works about Trump..celebs are chomping at the bit for the best ones.

History is important, try to stick with well respected historians, the best ones try to be as objective as possible.

Who gives a fuck?
I'm talking about this movie, who is a satire on an evil man with no scruples.
It works on every level without any bias.

The other masterpieces about Clinton or Obama that never got made because hollywood is biased.... we are not discussing those here.

Pass

All the facts are not out yet. Most of the important papers are still classified.

Serious historical research can only occur about 50-60 years after the time of power. Most of the documents have been declassified (all or most of the people have died). Historians can then piece together interviews, facts and documents about events.

To me, it is cringe-worthy when Hollywood judges a historical figure too early. The objective for Hollywood is entertainment and to profit on the 'polarization industry' that has cropped up in real life, not real history...liberties and are most certainly taken.

reply

Ok, that's fair enough.
I agree that the perspective changes over time.
But it's not that early, there's been two administrations since, about 20 years since he started VPing, it's not really an instant movie.
