Recently learned they "infiltrate" medical practices

an advance tl'dr; I just discovered my niece's dental office was sucked into a Scientology scam and thought I would share with you what we have figured out so far.
I know it is long, but it is worth it.
If you have any questions about her experience, I will see if she can answer them.

I thought I would share something that I am only recently learning.
My niece came for a visit last week from several states away. She happens to be an office manager in a dental office, who started working there maybe 2008 or 09 as a "floater" doing different tasks.
One night during our visit I asked her had she been watching this show. She hadn't heard of it, and not too familiar with Leah Remini either. So I turned on an episode and she tinkered around for a while before she was going to sit down to watch. At some point she overheard one of the soundbites which I believe was the one of LRH saying he is the author of Scientology books/ Dianetics. She stopped in her tracks. She said, "HEY!! I took some of his courses!!" I looked at her and said, "You did what?? Are you sure??" Yep! She was positive! So we paused the show and started talking about what she experienced.
I am still reeling over all this!! First let me say that my niece is NOT a Scientologist, nor is her boss (the dentist) or anyone she works with.
She goes on to tell me what all was coming to mind as we talked, since as I said, we were both quite shocked. Back when she began at the dental office, there were a few times where the Doc, Docs husband, and office workers went to some "free workshops" in their area, which were geared towards how to build and grow a successful practice, and all these other zany courses we keep hearing about on the show. Those workshops of course led to trips to Clearwater, to attend these management-type seminars put on by a company going by MGE (management experts inc. mgeonline.com I think takes you to their FB page). Near as I can tell, MGE falls under the umbrella of WISE (World Institute of Scientology Enterprises) probably. When looking at MGE, there is ZERO connection made to Scientology to make you think they are part of it. Somebody told me yesterday they thought that when they got Tax Exempt status that WISE was supposed to cease to exist). Doc of course paid to attend, they insisted her husband attend, and whatever office workers, although I don't know who or how they chose who to take.
At some point during one of the Clearwater trips, the office manager at the time was there. They actually told Doc that the girl was an SP, was holding them back, not a team player, etc etc and that she needed to be fired.
At some point after that, my niece replaced her as the office manager. I have no idea if she had ended up being let go eventually, or perhaps she quit. So from then on, my niece attended these seminars in Clearwater with Doc. I recall vaguely her telling me about going for training back when this was happening (at this time it is now 2010) .
So we continue discussing what all happened. She said that a good bit of it was actually good info that could actually be helpful, but much of it was just bizarre. She didn't really feel at all like they were being recruited, just that they were learning odd things in odd ways. They extensively covered "hard selling", using techniques such as pressuring patients into paying for their dental treatment plans up front for a discount of course. Her office isn't just a dentist, they do appliances and sleep apnea and such, so treatment plans are probably commonplace. They went over things like closing sales, communication, stops and barriers My niece recalls attending 3 or 4 of them, not sure how many Doc, her husband or any other office staff went. So the other night she took a look at the office Quick Books since she handles all that as part of her duties. We roughly calculated that the Doc spent $30,000 in a span of just 7 months!! There were numerous payments for varying amounts, and paid by several different methods. Sometimes there would be several payments in a single day using different CCs or bank accounts. We aren't sure if that amount included travel expenses, hotel and food etc for about 3 days each trip. They were required to purchase tons of books (some huge set for the doctors office, among course books and such for the ones attending. There are CDs as well. She sent me pictures, and I am guessing there are at least 20 books.
From what my neice thinks, going by the bio of the man who did one of her course lectures, it seems they do this with TONS of dental practices AND Chiropractors! Once they have your practice under their thumb and thriving, they convince the owners to sell the practice to them! Then many of the docs go on to work for this MGE company! Disclaimer: I have NO proof that that is what is happening, but that did seem the case according to what was presented at the lecture.
I happened to look yesterday on a forum about all this, and a woman posted a thread because she was concerned about her daughter. The exact thing was happening to the daughter! Today somebody sent me a link to a video of an interview with a dentist and his wife whos life was ruined by this horrible scamming cult!! I was floored! The first 15 miinutes I watched was an IDENTICAL story to what happened with my nieces doc. Luckily, the Doc wised up because they kept pushing more and more courses, telling her she wasn't done and had to attend more (BTW..they also sell these "courses" in "bulk" like they do the auditing sessions.) milking her for more and more money constantly.

I am still in shock over how such a simple thing like turning on this program that evening turned into such a discovery! I am glad Doc got out of it, and wish more people would wise up! My niece also just checked the testimonials for this company and it seems more than half of them actually did become Scientologists!

Has anyone else run across a situation like this?
I will try to keep ya'll updated if any of you would be interested.

Sorry for the length, thanks for sticking with me!

OMG Doc !!! Thanks so much for posting this. I've been watching the show and had no Idea that they were infiltrating people's lives like that. The first thing that came to mind was that film Invasion of the Body Snatchers . They could take over your town and you'd never even know it!!! 🕵️‍♀️

reply

It seems that they do this mostly to dental and chiropractor practices, rather than MDs.
Once they have them sucked in, they start staffing the offices with Scientologists who are able to keep Scientology in the loop of how well the office is doing financially. If it is reported to them that they had a good month or so, then the Co$ knows they can go to them and tell them they have "crimes" or make up more courses they have to take so they can siphon out the money they brought in. Sort of flipside though...if the office is doing poorly, they tell you you need more auditing and such.
My niece said it appeared to her (because the lecturer they heard *who happens to own the MGE* used to be a dentist, took courses then within a year was in the "church" and running MGE) that they have the docs who are fully involved eventually sell them the practice.

I am curious what other professions they are infiltrated into. Obviously law enforcement, city businesses like code enforcement I would think too. They seem to run schools for children in Scientology (although I may be misunderstanding that)

A friend of mine just posted on Facebook a story a friend of hers shared.

She lives out in LA so she went to celebrity center to take a course on how to get an agent. She thought it was just being held here, like how Methodist churches hold weight watchers meetings etc.

Apparently they got her into a room to watch Scientology videos and would not let her leave. She finally ended up climbing out a window onto a balcony and jumping from the story to go. She said luckily she hadn't given them her info because she knew what they were about and wasn't having any of it. I think that's when they separated her from the others and had her in the room she jumped from.

Damn the man! Save the Empire! Rave On, Rave On

Good grief!! She had to jump out a friggin window?!?!?! That is really scary!
I can't figure out how they aren't investigated for unlawful detainment/kidnapping type charges.
Did she know the people she was there with that she was separated from? My niece said they were separating people when she was there for the "management" courses. I wonder what criteria they use for the separations. Like they put the ones more susceptible to believing it all together, and the ones that may need more convincing in a different location? Maybe your friend could answer that for us?
Thanks for sharing that! I am glad she got out of there!

She should have used her cell phone and called 911 about being kidnapped or detained against her will!

reply

I agree with this, although I can imagine that when a person goes there for whatever reason that they probably take their cell phones away. If you think about it, the phone gives them access to not only call for help (like in the above situation) but most phones can take video, pictures and record. I am willing to bet they would never allow someone to take anything in that could capture what is happening and use it as evidence.
I could be completely wrong though since I have never been there, or in any similar situation.
For sure though, it sounds to me like kidnapping/unlawful detainment and could be reported right after getting away (unless they still have your phone maybe?)

Yes, they advertise in trade papers all the time with workshops about getting an agent, auditioning techniques, etc. They are usually led by an actual agent or manager or casting agent (who's in the CoS), and they are held at the Celebrity Centre. It's pretty obvious that it is tied to CoS,not just held there.

I went to one, thought I'd check it out and leave if they pushed CoS. They were teaching a Scientology communication technique that was supposed to help you connect with people, which would somehow help you get these parts? I was a bit confused as to how it fit together. It was led by Giovanni Ribisi's mom Gay, who's an agent and manager, and Scientologist (as is GR, his sister Marisa, and her husband Beck).

At the end of the brief (and not too relevant to acting) presentation, we were told we would sit down individually with some people who would give us a quiz to see how they might be able to help us.

I said no thank you, and left. I was not stopped or forced to stay. I just left.

They have a beautiful atrium at the Celebrity Centre, though. That's where the workshop (which i also paid $20 to attend) was held.

That's really interesting! I had no idea they did that!
My niece also took those communication courses as well as part of the management training courses her dental practice attended.
Like your experience not having much to do with acting, her courses had nothing to do with the medical field. It was a bunch of seminars about "hard sells", not taking NO for an answer, communications and learning to read others body language and such. She has a bunch of books, and a box of CDs which I did see somebody showing the camera during one of the episodes.
Although, her seminars were not brief. I think several times when they would go (they traveled from Michigan) to Clearwater, the courses lasted several days. Every time the Dentist would go, they insisted her husband had to go as well. When it was all said and done and the doctor wised up, she had already spent $30,000 in the span of about 7 months. She finally decided enough was enough because they just kept pushing more and more courses on them.
I believe they also sent some of the office workers to seminars that they held locally as well. They probably were listed in some sort of trade paper, as you said that was where you ran across it.

Thanks for sharing with us! I'd be interested in hearing if you happen to remember anything more at a later date!

In the past few days I read on a different forum about a mother who had her two young children (maybe 4 & 6 or so) in their acting classes held in the Celebrity Centre as well. She has noticed a lot of changes in the children, which seemed to mimic the teachings of Scientology. She was getting worried and was asking advice from others on what she should do.
I hope she takes the good advice she was given to get the children out of there!

This is how many people get sucked into it. So many people online say that people are stupid for joining but often they are tricked. They are told they are just taking a course on how to speak in public or do well on an interview for a new job or even a raise. Then next thing you know you are paying thousands of dollars to better yourself and your family.

I'm glad this girl saw through it. Did she say it was because of Leah's show?
