What an incredible show! I can't believe this is the first thread. Every actor cast in this show is amazing. Perfect actors for perfect roles. They got the Roman details down pat in every sense. Well done!

It was ok.
But I think commodus personality was more accurate in Gladiator.

But he didn't murder his father. And at one point he did grow up and really try to be a great emperor. Personally, I think the gladiator version of Comidus was a bit to woosified.

Is this a scripted drama or a documentary?

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.

It`s a documentary with bits of dramatization and totally unnecessary nudity (since it`s not really a scripted drama).

There is nothing unnecessary about seeing Aaron Jakubenko nude.

LOL Totally agree. That, Sean Bean's narration, and Narcissus were the best parts of this.

Wolfzbane...I totally agree. Soft porn mixed with "documentary" does not work. This series can't make up its mind whether it's a documentary or historical drama. Poor and plodding overall.

You mean for you. Because to imply that you speak for everyone is flat out wrong.

Although I'm not going to tell you you're wrong for feeling otherwise, in my case however, it didn't bother me one bit. It may not have been necessary, but it did work for me in selling the areas of the film where it wanted to pull away from the documentary feel and more heavily into the TV drama portions of it.

I'm just watching it now too.. Is some of the footage supposed to have a strange blur to it or is that done on purpose?

An excellent documentary. I actually watched the entire thing in one sitting.

And to those who say there are historical inaccuracies--you don't know what you're talking about. You weren't there. No one alive today was there. Historical record is not 100% factual, and history is always written by the victors. All we can do is 'best guess' and it flowed very well with the story.

I watched this series while at gym on the cross trainer,

It's fantastic and i love learning about history.

Commodos in this is completley different to Gladiator and they cannot be compared, in Gladiator you despise him, however in this you can understand why he did some things and tried to be a great emperor at some stage.

Really opened my eyes up and i will be looking more in to the history of this now.
