He shouldn't have done this in Nashville

Hope he comes back after this - it was painful to watch him die on stage and struggle his way through it. Loved his other Netflix specials. I think he'll get it back for the next one.

Have to agree there, I loved all material he had but the fact that he had to stop a few times to make sure the audience wasn't "pulling back" brought it down a lot. If you can't take a few offensive jokes, why the *beep* did you go to a Bill Burr show?! Audience really dampered the show. Hope he chooses somewhere better for next one.

This is a third special in a row for Burr that was not very good.

It started with You people are all the same. That included some tremendous bits, but also a lot of nothing bits. The audience was dead in that special.

Same applies for Im sorry you feel that way, except there, I did not laugh even once.

Stanhope is in a similar boat.

They drew every last drop out of their "hate the world" acts and now are just running on fumes. They need to evolve their material, or take a rest for a few years.

I just finished watching the special and had to come here to see if anybody else had this same problem. Laughter is contagious. You need the audience to respond well to jokes for the jokes to work.

Too bad this audience was deplorable. I feel like I watched a feature length Youtube clip of a random performance at a strip mall in which the crowd didn't know what to make of Bill. They didn't laugh at most of his jokes. Opting instead to fill the auditorium with awkward silence and negative vibes. I'm just dumbstruck that such a large portion of the audience that night paid a decent chunk of change to see Bill Burr tape a special ... only to discover they don't find Bill to be that funny; and are slightly offended by him as well.

It's as if less than half the crowd had ever seen Bill perform before than night. It was strange. It was awkward. And it killed the special.

I think it was more Burr. This was not good material at all. Defiantly his worst special.

I mean, you should never blame an audience, if the comedian isn't funny, he isn't funny. I love Burr but this set just wasn't very good

I mean, I listen to his podcast and laugh my ass off. Here, I don't think I laughed once. He lacked his usual craziness and flair and most of his jokes where not that good

I dont understand people criticizing the filming location, I just watched it and despite being a huge Bill Burr fun, I wouldn't have laughed either. Some are saying people in the audience couldn't handle the offensive jokes...what offensive jokes? I remember his stand-up on a Hollywood fundraiser where he was trashing Hilary in front of all of those celebrities that were dead-cold and never laughed, I still though it was funny as hell. So I am not sure if a quiet audience is really the problem here.

I think it comes down to two things: a) a lot of his material I already knew from interviews with Conan etc. b) he has a different style in this one, and obviously he has not perfected it. His jokes used to be about some crazy/funny opinions that he had, now it was about him acting and doing weird voices.

Maybe my dissatisfaction is natural for being overexposed to him. I've been listening to his podcast for past year and following whatever interview he did. But he also had some new material in there...which he delivered very poorly.

Or maybe I'm just a whiny bitch :)

I thought it was great. Comedians have to evolve and change. Look at George Carlin, he changed several times. If a comedian sticks to doing the same thing everytime, their career will never last. As for the audience and location, he intentionally chose Nashville instead of places like Boston and New York. He talked about how he'd rather pick an audience that doesn't quite GET him and his opinions. He thrives in people heckling him. Why have a crowd that laughs and cheers at every word you say? It's like a presidential speech and after each sentence he gets a standing ovation. This was a great special. Maybe watch it a few times more.

I have seen him perform this in London last year - WHERE THE *beep* is all the Jenner stuff???? It had me on the floor. Is Netlix this PC????

Netflix definitely isn't squeamish. Other comedy specials they've funded have dealt with hot topics. I listened to an interview with Bill and he mentioned specifically staying away from his usual material because he didn't want to repeat himself. I think this special was him trying to branch out, and it mostly worked--at least in my opinion. But the crowd just wasn't feeling it.

The reaction was exactly what he wants. Crowd cheering or not.

I saw him a couple months before this special was recorded. It was at a big theatre, same jokes as this special. The place was packed and the crowd was loudly cheering every joke and laughing like lunatics and he still did the whole "Why are you guys pulling back?" "Why are you guys so shocked"? etc etc. He also does this on his other specials.

I think it's an editing technique he does to make it sound more awkward then it really is. At this point, nobody is paying that kind of money to see him and be shocked at what he says.

What a stupid thing to say, this was by far his worst special that I can think of, as an audience member I don't have an obligation to laugh at something I don't find to be funny.
