What are people's thoughts about yet another origin movie?

I'm pretty sick of origin stories, it ruins the mystery of fun characters. There have been so many movies like this lately; Cruella, Maleficent, Solo, Venom, Lightyear, and all the Marvel movies.
I feel like pop culture is eating itself.

Quite skeptic. "Wicked" was ridiculous. And who has the right to say what happened before.

N\By the way, "Bates Motel" is incredibly bad. It has cell phones and what have you.

reply

Oh I have to disagree about Bates Motel. I was completely sceptical about the whole idea but I thought it was so well done, it well exceeded all the low expectations I had. I thought the way it used the story of Psycho as a basis for a series with a contemporary setting was really clever. I was hooked from first episode to last (which I still rank as one the best series finales ever). And Vera Farmiga.. man, that lady gives everything she’s in a touch of class!

reply

Ummm why wouldn't Bates motel have cell phones....IT WAS SET IN PRESENT DAY....lmao...

reply

Psycho wad around 1960 and this is Norman as a boy

reply

It was a reboot. Norman is a young man in this series. It went through the entire thing...

I can't stand them. We're not allowed to study a mysterious character with our imaginations anymore. Not to mention the reimagining of the characters and stories into wokeness to up their ESG scores.

reply

It's unnecessary. I would prefer more original characters and new stories.

reply

Depends. If the character is like at best supporting in the originals but interesting (say, Bobba Fett or Hobbs & Shaw) it's fine.

But Cruella, Maleficent, Solo and Lightyear (and Wonka too) were big important characters integral to the original stories. Their origin stories are super unecessary and if they made lots of retcons just to make it a story than it's lame as well.

Venom, in my opinion, was just a small role in Spider-Man 3, so I guess an origin story about this unique character that was given no justice in the original movie is okay. But a sequel to that is also unecessary.

reply

The mystery around Nolan's Joker is what made the character so interesting.

I hate to be a pessimist, but movies are done.

Nah. We still haven't yet seen a movie dedicated to The Ghost Of Christmas Future's origin story. Once that comes to fruition, we can confer Passenger Pigeon status on cinema

We'll get to see Wonka saving the Oompa Loompas from being gobbled up by Wangdoodles and Hornswogglers and Snozzwangers and rotten Vermicious Knids. And we'll finally get to see this wasteland that is Loompaland and what these fierce beasts look like. I just hope the CGI isn't cheap looking. And I would prefer if they used a CGI version of a young Gene Wilder the way the did with Robert Downey Jr in Civil War. I thought the quality of the CGI they used for that was incredible.

"Vermicious Knids"?

reply

I'm sorry, but all questions must be submitted in writing.

reply

I think it could be really good.

More proof that nobody creative is making decisions in Hollywood.
