I normally love series like this. However, after three episodes , I am out. Done. Why? There is not enough there to sustain a series. Dull characters and boring storylines. In this type of series, you either have a charismatic lead or a group of characters that you care about like Lost or The Walking Dead. Snowpiercer has neither. I'm jumping off this train.
I felt that way after the first two episodes, but after ep 3, I'm kind of interested in seeing where it goes and what unravels.
Your points are valid, however, in that we really don't have anyone to root for. I guess in today's SJW world, we're supposed to be rooting for the tailies, but there's nothing in the show to really get behind there.
Same here I quit after episode 3. Theres just nothing interesting about it besides Jennifer Connelly and her Character the lead actor is unconvoncing and the standard detective story is boring.
Missed oportunity because the story has potential.

It seems the murder-mystery angle is over for now. I find myself wanting to see what comes next.
