Did this take you out of the film? Or was it good to see him do this?

Keep in mind a genie is all powerful as far as we know. Whenever a being that powerful talks specifically to "us" it could simply be because he created us.

I don’t recall seeing the genie break the fourth wall ... when did this happen?

When he rewinds the film after learning Aladdin didn't make a wish to escape from the cave
