Another fake box office for political Disney?

2018. Black Panther, a decent movie but far from being the best of Marvel... breaks every forecast becoming the highest grossing Non-Avengers movie in Marvel.
2019 Captain Marvel, a movie in the low tier from Marvel, breaks forecasts again and becomes the second highest grossing Non-Avenger movie in Marvel.
Both of them, ahead of Captain America, Thor, Iron Man or any other classic character.

2019 Aladdin looks like it's gonna break forecasts.

Three of them are from Disney. Three or them are the political movies Disney has made to commit with spreading the Diversitarian message. Three of them suddenly break forecasts that use to be almost always right.

What the odds?

i think you are very jealous of Disney

reply

"i think you are very jealous of Disney"

So, criticizing someone indicates jealousy? Sorry, but that's not merely irrational, it's retarded. (Actually I'm not really sorry)

reply

The OP regularly types these posts out whenever a Marvel movie makes good bank, believes that Disney buys tickets for there own movies to inflate the BO numbers, that is retarded, and I believe the OP cant handle the fact that Disney is so successful.

reply

There was political and diversity commentary in Dumbo, Ant-Man and the Wasp and Mary Poppins returns.

You focused on two movies that did well and ignored the rest.

What are the odds? lol.

Captain Marvel benefited a little bit from starring a woman but its real secret of success was being the lead-in to Endgame while being a competent superhero movie that did what it needed to do.

Black Panther made huge gains because its been a long time since the black community has had their own superhero and the first time one has been given the full budget MCU treatment along with a huge amount of world building. Plus it was the lead-in to Infinity War.

Aladdin was essentially being panned by people before they saw it. Now that they are seeing it it is surpassing expectations and gaining word of mouth.

• "There was political and diversity commentary in Dumbo, Ant-Man and the Wasp and Mary Poppins returns. You focused on two movies that did well and ignored the rest."

I've focused in the movies that were more political. BP and Captain Marvel were intended to shift the most important movie franchise right now towards a Diversitarian message. Aladdin is much more Diversitarian than Dumbo, Ant-Man or Mary Poppins: the whole cast is diverse except for one white male that plays (of course!) the most ridiculous asshole in the movie.

• "Captain Marvel benefited a little bit from starring a woman but its real secret of success was being the lead-in to Endgame. Black Panther made huge gains because its been a long time since the black community"

None of them explains the huge level of success. BP had highest box office EVEN than the Avengers movies (except Endgame). Captain Marvel surpassed surpassed every other non-Diversitarian superhero in the franchise, including Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Spider Man, Dr Strange or Guardians of the Galaxy. That doesn't make any sense.

• "Aladdin was essentially being panned by people before they saw it. Now that they are seeing it it is surpassing expectations and gaining word of mouth."

EVEN if the movie was gaining word of mouth, that takes a while. In the case of Jumanji, it took 2-3 weeks until it pushed the box office. Word of mouth pushing the opening weeked? Again, that doesn't make any sense.

And that's the problem: all those things that doesn't make any sense... all of them are happening coincidentally in the movies used by Disney to enforce Diversitarianism. How convenient.

What are you talking about? I've not heard one major critic give it a positive review thus far. Are you a shill?

Mary Poppins Returns - Dismissed by critics. $349.5 million

Dumbo - Dismissed by critics. $352.2 million

Aladdin - Mixed by critics. $965.1 million

Its obvious Aladdin did something right. Too many critics were focused on the bad reactions to the trailer that was released before the CGI was finalized.

You chose the two worst possible picks there. Angry Joe, though a funny guy, is hardly what I call a trustworthy critic. He's a very simple, mainstream blockbuster guy. With not a whole lotta knowledge on film or deeper understanding of the medium. Grace on the other hand, is more like a Hollywood reporter than anything else. Either way, neither are particularly trustful sources of opinion. Every other actual respectable critic I've seen, seems to universally agree that the film was crap.

^^^

extremely High considering 2 of the films HAD Massive Cultural Followings getting behind them and had subject matters that were of significant importance

and The other film was remake of An All Time CLASSIC Animated film that is Beloved and appeals to Massive audience and multiple generations...

lol

there are so many problems with this trolling attempt its almost beyond description...

first, Its not real, You dont actually Believe Disney Is Faking box office because You know its impossible.

but if you actually did, YOU Picked the worst Possible films to make that claim.

at the core of this argument is the question "what are the chances 3 films would over perform at the box office by the same studio"

lol, and first There are probably DOZENS of examples of Studios releasing 3 films in a row that all over performed...

But secondly, to define "what are the chances" of 3 films over performing in a row ....You have to Look at The 3 Films themselves and see If Theres was a logically reason why Those films might have Overperformed....

and this goes back to my Point of ....You couldnt have picked worse Examples...there couldnt be 3 films with BETTER reasons to over perform than BP,CM and Aladdin....

All Have concrete reasons why They over performed....

Black Panther Became a Cultural Event, Its Subject Matter resulted in A Massive New Audience getting behind the film, No one could have predicted the impact and effect this film would have had on the Black/African community...Therefor no one could have Predicted how it would perform, resulting In A Unequivocally reason for the film Over performin

Captain Marvel Is the MCUs first FEMALE Lead Superhero movie, Much Like WW, A Huge Woman's movement got behind the film, resulting In a New Audience when certainly Lead to its Over performance....and Further More Its clear now after The box office results of Endgame which has proven to be The Event film of a Generation, Captain Marvel became A Must see film heading into Endgame givien that Her character was to have a role in The film.

There are 2 concrete reasons why CM over performed, The Women's movement behind the film and Its Importance leading up to The Most anticipated Film of all time in Endgame

Then Theres Aladdin, Disney's Live action Fairytales have for the most part ALL Over performed....This is because They are based on ALL TIME Classic Animated films....

These are RARE movies that appeal to 2 Generations....Usually Parent take Their children to see animated films usually not really caring about the film itself...but with these, They Appeal to BOTH the Parents and Children as The Parents actually Grew up and watched The Animated films as kids ...

again...I know this is a troll thread...I know your not serious.

But I couldnt help replying because to be honest, I dont respect BAD TROLLING....

This was a case were your trolling not only didnt makes sense....But You truly May have picked the worst possible examples while trying to troll...

as I said earlier, I bet there are dozens of cases where Studios has had 3 films in a row over perform, lol , the answer to Your embarrassing question of "what are the chances", Is probably damn near every major studio has done it MULTIPLE times...

but out of all those times....I would guarantee there isnt A better example of 3 films in a row overperforming and HAVING CLEAR, Concrete reasons for thier over performance Than Disney's BP,CM and Aladdin...

bottom line....This is one of the biggest trolling fails I've ever seen.

at the core of This trolling attempt, You failed Literally has bad as you cold possible fail....

You entire argument rest on "what are the chances" and You Picked 3 films that Had THE BEST Possible reasons to over perform...

What was remotely political about Captain Marvel or Black Panther?

reply

Is that a joke?

reply

No, I watched both and there were no overt political statements in either. They were superhero films filled with action and effects, but never once did I feel I was being preached to, or being shown a message, or in any way being offered a political point of view. At what point in either film did you feel like some political message was being conveyed to the audience?

reply

The OP is just annoyed at seeing nonwhites in his movies or women outside the house, that's all.

reply

Agreed. We hear so many complaints about how "SJW's" are whiners & overly sensitive. But that just seems like dogma for people who don't want to see minorities featured anywhere. Otherwise it's pushing an agenda just because they exist. lol

reply

Nope.

reply

Your posts concerning the new Ariel suggest otherwise :).

reply

No, they don't.

You think they do because you have a tribal concept of the world. I complain about Disney blackwashing the main character of a Danish folk tale... but I'd equally complain about Disney westernizing some African folk tale. I don't like political indoctrination or racewashing in any way.

But you can't understand that, because your mind can't move beyond tribal mindset.

reply

..right...

So, according to you, nazi movies that portray jews as some kind of stingy miserable people are not political, because they don't contain any overt political statement, isn't it?

Interesting.

which political agenda is in aladin? enlighten me pls

What will be telling is what happens with the follow up to Black Panther and Captain Marvel, as will be true of Wonder Woman... If they were generating box office receipts based solely on the diversity angle then you would expect the sequels to fair much worse as the people that simply went to the movie to support a cause will be less likely to partake in any follow up since they already showed their support the first time around. I suspect the sequels for these movies will drop considerable because none of the three I mentioned were really great films, and generated a significant amount of their box office because of the diversity angle that they played. If you think about Wonder Woman, the actress is really pretty weak, the movie was okay but going forward there is a good chance people will realize she's just plain and boring.... with Black Panther, the movie had so many plot holes you had to laugh if you ever bothered to think about it, the movie itself just wasn't that good I certainly didn't leave the movie and say, "damn I can't wait for the next one" and I don't think many people thought that aside from the executive in the studio that just thought if we made this much money on this one we can make so much more in the future... I'll be surprised if Panther or Wonder Woman make as a long running franchise. They may make it to trilogy level simply because they will not lose hope when the sequel doesn't make the same results as before but when the third drops to near breakeven or below they will be dead.

reply

Exactly. If numbers were real, Captain Marvel would be the most profitable movie (income/budget) in Marvel franchise's history BY FAR. And then Black Panther. However, it took quite a while to greenlight Black Panther's sequel, and we're still waiting for Disney to greenlight Captain Marvel's one. It doesn't make any sense. If numbers were real, Disney managers would be breathing heavily while ordering more Captain Marvel movies, and maybe some spin-off, and then a TV series. More! more!...

But they don't.

If you wanna know the truth, don't watch what people say, watch what people DO. Something fishy is going on with Disney.

reply

You're incredibly deluded

reply

--However, it took quite a while to greenlight Black Panther's sequel, and we're still waiting for Disney to greenlight Captain Marvel's one. It doesn't make any sense. If numbers were real, Disney managers would be breathing heavily

Good point.

The amount of money can be manipulated in a bunch of creative ways. That goes for budget and income as well. And after Black Panther, it is evident, that critics are not reliable in any way. According to them, it is the best movie ever made. It is not.

Harder to manipulate is the raw number of people watching a movie. But I do not find those values for USA. In Germany there are visitor numbers available. For Black Panther it was 1.7 Million. Deadpool 2 had 2.2 Million, Infinity War 3.4 Million and highest for 2018 was that Harry Potter Spin off with 3.8 Million. Aquaman had 1.9, Venom 1.4, Solo Star Wars Story 1.3

Endgame so far has 4.8 Million. 2nd place so far is that Dragon Taming movie Pt 3 with 2.2 Million and 3rd is Captain Marvel with 2.0 Million.

Aladdin is at 0.7 currently, but the second week was as strong as the first week, so who knows when it will slow down. Starting week times 3-5 seems a good guess for other movies, so it might hit 1.5 Million viewers.

reply

Well the film makers did things their way just as you would if you had that job no matter what some random person on a movie forum says a bout it. No film will ever please everybody for multiple of reasons no matter how well it does in the box office.

reply

If anything, studios have a larger incentive to say a filmed earned less than what it made in reality. They might try to that to minimize their tax liability.

reply

Not necessarily.

Failure can become a liability by itself. It can severely damage a franchise, even a whole brand. For example, John Carter is very much dead for now, no matter it's the most popular pulp franchise ever and the movie was actually quite good. Even George Lucas tried to launch it (but he didn't get the rights). However, marketing was terrible and it flopped. That killed the franchise. Once you've flopped, the word 'failure' is sticked to you. So they can decide that it's better to pay some additional taxes (not that much after tax engineering) and avoid the 'failure' label, which would decrease future incomes.
