Not funny, he doesn't seem to know if he wants to rap a song or play it straight, he never really comes off as a genuine "friend". The movie's got other problems too but he's one of the biggest.

He did well. I liked the movie a lot and I'm a huge fan of the original.
shareWhen was the last time Will Smith really invested himself in a role? It's been a while. His motivations are obviously more financial. I heard he was very good in Cuncussion... But usually, he seems to pick projects which guarantee him a better income.
And you can do both. You can get a huge salary for some projects, without stopping yourself from taking risks. Christian Bale is a prime example: he did receive huge salaries for some movies, but never stopped himself to take roles which challenge him as an actor even if they pay less. I think you need to be able to be able to make the good balance between the two to be taken really seriously as an artist. Because if you make all your desicions out of greed you lose sight of what you are there for in the first place.
However, some actors love having this approach and I don't say it is wrong. I just say that Smith can do better.
I feel like it should have been Sinbad if only he was still as big as he used to be in the 90s and earlier 2000s. He has a great look for a genie in general, and would have been able to perform the role very well.
