Horrible from the looks of it. The amount of downvotes also... 2019 Jasmine is all covered up to show she's has no body confidence or is proud of her sexuality. Genie looks like they took Shaq's body and smacked on Will Smith's face replacement and voice. Jarfar is some young guy instead of some older dude to probably get girls into older men or pedo it up like they do in Hollywood.

Wow, that up vote/down vote ratio is crazy.

It does seem like Disney fucked up on this one. Hiring Guy Ritchie to direct was probably their first mistake. I mean, this guy JUST got done making one of the worst King Arthur movies of all time.

A live action Aladdin movie is a fine idea . . . but not like this. Not like this.

I agree about Guy Ritchie. Someone else like Rob Marshall or hell, Gore Verbinski. Somebody they’re used to.

reply

The thing about Guy Ritchie is that he has a lot of talent, but his results are wildly inconsistent.

Snatch was an excellent film. The first Sherlock Holmes was also pretty good. And I've heard good things about The Man from UNCLE. But I could do without the rest.

King Arthur needs to go die in a fire somewhere. That one was such a HUGE miscalculation. Nearly everything about that movie is just wrong.

reply

Agreed. UNCLE is pretty fun;nice to see Cavill had one decent movie under his belt before BVS killed him off!

I'm not sure why they were thinking of for this film. Screen Rant did an interesting article saying the film seems indecisive about its tone. Is it a realistic world with a CGI genie? Or a fantasy world with bizarre ott imagery so the CGI is supposed to look goofy. That's fine except the more I look at it, the cgi just isn't that good.

I feel like now with the backlash from this one minute long snippet from the movie just continuing to pile on that Aladdin might be the first Disney remake to flop at the box office.

reply

Just from the trailers, it largely seems to me to be one of those movies that are shot almost entirely against a green screen with a few physical props lying around. Maybe my feeling will change after they release a full trailer and show more of the movie.

As for flopping, nah, I really doubt it. People will go see it, even if they walk in expecting to leave disappointed. It's just one of those things. As far as I can tell, these live action adaptations are bulletproof when it comes to box office success. Disney is printing money; maybe they just print a little less this time.

Spock and Smurfette had a baby! Why did they release a picture of Genie months ago without the blue?

I didn't realize this was a Guy Ritchie film.
His early films (Lock Stock and Two Broken Barrels, Snatch) were brilliant. It's a shame what's happened to him.
