I'm not anti religious but it's become obvious modern American Christians will gobble up any crap that validates their religion. Are Christians capable of thinking for themselves? Do they just instantly hand over their money, file in like lemmings and bark like seals at every cue just because it's a Christian movie? How can they not see how obtuse these movies are? Something like Scorcese's Silence is a movie that actually discusses faith in a mature way and demonstrates its power. This (and all the other psuedo-Christian crap invading theaters lately) stoop beneath a child's intellect. Sad...

Why do you think this film is obtuse? Its based on a book written by a longtime atheist, who spent two years trying to disprove the Bible after his wife accepted Jesus. Lee Strobel's search for truth ultimately broke through his assumptions, and within another year he'd trusted Jesus with his own life. "The Case For Christ" was published in 1998, and recounts many of Strobel's personal experiences plus interviews with respected scholars. He has since become one of the world's most well-know Christian apologists, giving intellectual defenses for the faith. Later books include "The Case For A Creator", "The Case For The Real Jesus", "The Case For Faith", "The Case For Easter", and "The Case For Christmas". Aside from those, he's also co-written books discussing both "The Passion of the Christ" and "The Da Vinci Code", plus "Surviving a Spiritual Mismatch in Marriage", and a series of books for kids on Christian apologteics.

So, a committed atheist is converted to christianity, writes a book about it, and then more books about it, and then a film is made from his book, and, (I assume) this made him rich beyond his wildest dreams.

I'm just racking my brain trying to figure out what the motivation for his conversion could possibly have been?
Hmm, it's a tricky one.

I look forward to his next book "The Case for a Charlatan".

Oh, and I love "intellectual defences for the faith" (please look up "oxymoron")

You're assuming the only reason anyone would write a book about anything, is for the sake of profit. What about those who have to self-publish, because no one's interested in their story? Some folks just want to get their ideas out there, in the hope that someone is bettered by it.

While I don't care for the OP's attitude, there are a few other reasons to call this film obtuse. It does, in fact, dumb down its source material. I understand that this is a narrative film about Strobel's life, and not really a direct adaptation of the book, but it fails so hard at conveying Strobel's actual ideas. (At least, I hope it does. It's been years since I've perused the book.) There's at least one character in the film that tries to pass off a simplified version of Pascal's wager as original thought, a massive peeve of mine. There is acknowledgment of the presence of bias and lack of counter-perspective, but this is never actually explored. The film legit ends with "Sorry god, you win," and Strobel finally gives in simply because he's found holes in all of his own arguments against the historical existence of christ. The historical existence of christ is an entirely separate issue from the "come to jesus" story present in the film, which is so obviously tacked on because pureflix wanted a narrative and not a compelling documentary. I'm sure they also wanted to deify Strobel.

I honestly don't understand why the evangelical community isn't lashing out against PureFlix for being boring, misinformed, and exploitative. I am not a theist by any means, but my god would this piss me off if I was!

You are anti-religious. Why lie to yourself? The Case for Christ is a great book. A lot of people with reason & logic accept it as validation. Kind of like people who join a political party even though not everyone in the country believes the same thing. When you call people "Idiots" you are incapable of seeing things from their perspective. You are extremely anti-religious. At least be honest.

You are the one in denial. I'm calling you out. My Christian friends are educated with many having Masters degrees & PHD's. In my church alone there are (public) educators, an engineer, a physicist & more. Interesting that you need to insult all of us for our beliefs even though no one has insulted your beliefs. I was a former atheist myself. My own experience is all the evidence I need. Being an Atheist is one thing. You can choose to be one & be decent to other people. But, you would rather be rude & judgmental. And that can't be defended or changed.

One can be educated and still be dumb as fucking rocks. If someone's mentally challenged in a way that makes them believe a pregnant lady claiming to be a virgin with god's son in her belly, I don't give a shit how many degrees they have.

It is statements like this that (I think) the OP is referring to.

Your only recourse to refute my comment effectively, is to reply with clear statistics which back up your claim, which you won't, because you can't.

The only thing the OP did wrong is calling it "the idiot demographic" when we all know it should be called "the Trump voter demographic"!

I agree he should not call people idiots, but I find it hard to believe(sorry) that the wife depicted in the movie was capable of seeing things from whoever's perspective.
