Crappy movies turn into crap TV!

The last two have IMDb ratings of 6.0 & 5.3. Why not spin off a TV crapfest!

Review: USA’s Uninspired TV Adaptation Should be Outlawed Every Night of the Year

So pointing out that the latest depiction of Purge Night — and the first for made for TV — isn’t particularly petrifying is far from a damning critique. “The Purge” doesn’t have to be, but USA’s limited series does need to deliver something of value: engaging characters (rather than one-note eye witnesses), imaginative world-building (instead of brief, unexplored glimpses), or, yes, relevant commentary. The first three episodes make a half-hearted attempt toward the latter, but they’re just reiterating aspects from the movies. With a high-concept (“Crime is legal!”) and a ticking clock (“But just for 12 hours!”), “The Purge” should never be familiar or slow, and the TV version manages both.

If you hated the movies, why on earth would you bother watching the TV show?

reply

I wouldn't watch any. So much trash on TV and film. IMDb rating is 6.3.

reply

Not a huge fan of the moves (I did Like Anarchy a lot) that being said after 3 episodes this show is not interesting at all and I don't think I'll be watching anymore.

With a high-concept (“Crime is legal!”) and a ticking clock (“But just for 12 hours!”)......

stupidest idea ever. the perfect example of lazy scriptwriting

reply

The thought that gave birth to this concept was probably: "Hey, what would a zombie apocalypse be like without zombies?" That is basically what the story is.

reply

we already had plenty of those - and they didnt have 12 hour limits.

I think the thought process was: wouldnt it be great if we could have a film with people terrorizing a neighborhood for some reason. i know lets just say its legal to do that one night a year.

Is there any actual reason given for the existance of the purge law in the purge universe?
do they claim it reduces crime?

reply

As i understand the reason was at least in the original movie that the prisons can't support all the criminals any more so people need to be allowed to let their anger and frustration out so they don't commit crimes on the rest of the year and has to be locked away. Yeah, it's dumb, but i doubt the writers really cared for a legitimate reason, as you say all they wanted was an excuse for these characters to go nuts.

reply

wow , one of the dumbest , most banal ideas for a film is now into its second tv series adaption. sad .

reply

The Idea isn't bad its just poorly executed except for the 2nd movie

reply

"The Idea isn't bad"

come on
"Do whatever crime you want for one night to get it out of your system"
Its the dumbest most unworkable impractical idea ever
theres no way any society would survive it without "purge night" rapidly descending into purge day , and permanent anarchy

reply

If the execution was better it could work. Blumhouse has much worse ideas than purge
