Frozen has been an experimental franchise. After the movie they did a half season in Once Upon A Time. Whether or not it counts as canon, it was beautifully done and made the characters richer. Then we got the short Frozen Fever. In eight minutes they reminded fans of why they liked the series.

Now we have Northern Lights. Hope you like references because that's all this is. References and mediocre humor with a thin plot dressing. For some reason the animation appears lower quality than other Lego projects which is confusing when Frozen is such a big property. Disney can do a lot better than this.

I totally agree with you. I loved the Frozen characters in OUAT, and actually liked them better than the original animated characters. The Frozen short was cute. This was not that great, for all the reasons you stated.
