Just got done binge'ing this badboy. The show was freaking amazing!
Why in gods name would anyone cancel this? INSANE!
Fuck you USA NETWORK!

I've been eyeing this on Netflix. Does the first season have a proper ending? Or are things left open for next season?

The overarching story ends for about 80%. Well, it really depends on what you see as the main plot to be honest.
There are def open ends, 1 storyline even ends on a cliffhanger.

Regardless, this show was amazing so it really is worth the watch!!

You know, I started watching the first episode of this when it came out, and it was very difficult to get into, just didn't pull me in at all. And in all the weeks that followed I simply could not muster up the interest to finish it, let alone to watch the subsequent eps.

My guess is the show was canceled because it was hugely unpopular.

Show got cancelled because the ratings weren’t so hot. They have to make a profit

The setup is very interesting and the historical background is rich thematic material for a period series. Only the show ended up being one of those shows that tried to pack too much plot into its first season instead of fleshing out the characters first. I'm not surprised it got canceled. It's too bad though. This could had been like a new 'Boardwalk Empire' or 'Peaky Blinders' but with a Western/Southern Gothic vibe.
