THIS is the highest grossing animated film of all time?

I find it amazing that this movie that made the most out of any other animated film at the box office, it made more than the original and looked a thousand times worse. This is the highest grossing animated movie, but has had just absolutely 0 cultural impact, I haven't heard anyone anywhere talking about it or reference it or anything, yet it made close to 2 billion dollars, why? Who wanted to see this movie? Was it just a case of there being literally nothing else to see? I'm not even angry, I'm just confused as to how this made so, so much money.

Define cultural impact.

I'd say something had a lot of cultural impact if it had groups of people talking about it, influenced other work or is commonly referenced by people in casual conversation or other media.

I haven't heard anything about this movie other than the eye-rolling before it came out and the later discovery of it being the highest grossing animated film according to Wikipedia.

Is it an animated remake of an animated film?? Why???

Different story or a flat out remake??
