Disappointing (SPOILERS)

Well, I don't expect much from a Nick Cage movie, but even so, this one was a total waste of my time.

I thought at least the killer should have been the wife. She had reason to be jealous of the bikini blonde, they hid the face of the killer, hinting it was someone we already knew and possibly female. It would also explain Ray's truck being in town when little Crissie was killed.

The "townies" probably did the pig thing and the paint, figuring one of the two newcomers had something to do with the murder.

The end really sucked. How could they just leave town without raising suspicions? Plus, it shows Ray has learned nothing about running away from problems.

...and that poor, beautiful mantis. Killed for a piece of drek like this? Sad. At least they let the snake go.

The only things I liked were the music and the scenery around St. George, UT. Oh, and the actor who played Howard was pretty good. He actually brought some wry humor to the part. But his character had no motivation, esp. to kill Ray and Maggie. He died too quickly and easily, too. Ray had no skills and no plan, yet overcame the skilled, armed, waiting Sheriff?

The dominatrix was hot. I forgot that "plus." So was the bikini babe.

IDK, I thought it was pretty good. I just saw it on netflix, recently, without knowing anything about it, so I wasnt expecting anything. I know alot of ppl online criticize Nick Cage for overacting, but personally I think he's a pretty good actor.

So going in, without any knowledge of the movie and no pre-concieved notions, I thought itwas good, I don't watch a lot of thrillers so I can't comment to how it stacks up to other murder-mystery stories or films. I just thought, for what it worth , I didn't know who was the killer till the end, personally, IT threw me off. But I don't watch alot of murder /thriller type films.

I thought it ended OK, as well as it could have. They weren't going to stay in that town, obviously, they had more enemies than just the killer, all the locals ... I didn't see it as running away. They couldn't stay at that motel after all that happened, they obviously had to leave.

Just my 2 cents, I wouldn't say this film is Citizen Kane by any means, but personally I enjoyed it.

That's OK... "Citizen Kane" isn't Citizen Kane.

What? Citizen Kane isn't Citizen Kane? That makes a whole lot of sense...

Yeah, I thought it was okay, too. Nic Cage is hit-or-miss for me, but dangit is he always entertaining or what? Even when he's bad, he's un-unwatchable.

I, too, had no foreknowledge of what it was supposed to be. I liked the low-key thriller thing. While Ray is running around trying to figure out what's going on with the mystery, the deaths, etc., he's being a good guy. He clearly loves his wife, he's trying to make it work, he does his job well (except for being weirdly icy to Tom when he walks in the door the first time), and he's trying to get to the bottom of the rot around his motel. That's all good, but his peeping nature is bad. It was interesting watching a movie show us a character who is an Average Joe type character, generally pretty decent, but he just keeps giving in to this rotten thing he does.

Now, I will say this: there wasn't enough closure in the film, and the ending felt rushed. Ray and Maggie leave at least one MAJOR loose end. Ironically, it's the dominatrix. There's also "crew-cut", who might have been involved, too. They also skip town in the dumbest way possible. Why not tell Tom that 10 is taken? He's going to report this, and with Ray and Maggie bouncing out of their so quickly, they'll look REALLY guilty. Even if they didn't think they'd get a fair shake from the local cops (which is reasonable to think), you'd like to imagine that they'd at least tell Tom they just booked everything up, pack some stuff, and get out of there.

Worse, though, them dealing with the fallout of the film is as interesting as what happened in the movie. We don't get to see what happens with their relationship. We don't get to see how they handle being on the run. We just see them drive. They could have tried burying the cop, or hiding him in that crawlspace, and then selling the motel and disappearing (ala Ben). But at least they could have packed some stuff and told Tom not to go in room 10.
