Surprisingly Twisty SPOiILERS

I went into this film totally blind.

I clicked play expecting some B-grade horror film but was instantly impressed with the more A-grade cinematography. Then I felt more invested when I realised an actor with some real credibility was in it (even if Helen Hunt looked a lot different to how I remember her!)

I was definitely thinking it was a sci-fi alien movie at first - what with the way the kid 'flew' backwards off the bike. Then halfway through...Bam! The phrogger twist totally threw me....then the guy she was having an affair with gets killed....then the son gets accosted...Dad turns out to be a psycho...then you assume the girl phrogger is killed not once, but twice! Then the slightly twisted young psycho phrogger is revealed to be a victim from way back.

My neck was put out with all the mis-direction and clever plotting. It was way better than I expected.

Good review! I liked it too. You hit all the high marks of the movie.

Yes great movie. The bike scene was classic misdirect. This movie should have felt misjointed, but it didn't. I was initially distracted by hunts face, then I forgot. Speaks volumes for the flick I think.

I almost turned it off after the opening kid on the bike sequence......for what kellmandy mentions, but glad I didn't.

The issue I have with movies that have this type of twist is that you have to almost watch the movie twice: the first time makes you wonder, the second time shows the actualities. A writer should be able to write this story without duplicating it. (See Housebound.)

I thought it was OK. I liked the twists and all but by the end there is no character I cared much about. So, it all has a kinda remote, chilly feel to it--bad things happening to people I don't like enough to care about.

The girl was painfully dumb when she escaped the car and found the trailer in the wood. That's where I was happy to see her die. She was an idiot.

The final twist also didn't make any sense. At any point, Alec could have identified Greg (the cop) as the kid killer and gone to the police. Instead he plots an elaborate phrogging plan? Oh please.

reply

Same. I went in thinking it would be a police procedural. Then it turned into a pretty good ghost story. Then it was neat how they filled in the blanks.
