My impressions 'till episode three [Spoilers]

I've been following the series since it's debute on Vimeo. I had a lot of expectations and was kind of disappointed by the first two episodes. The writing shifted a bit from The Guy and his meetings with clients, towards a more client-centered show.
High Maintenance started on Vimeo as a laid-back comedy about stoners, and transitioned itself into a drama with a big changing cast.
It's not bad, because it's still a better show then a comedy about stoners that could be a very shallow tv show. "Louie" did this as well over the years and I've grown to like that about the show.

I'm still getting used to this more serious format. I like that the writers chose to deal with minorities. It shows that everyone uses weed, and were all human. Also, I loved that we see recurring characters - Like when we meet Colin (Dan Stevens) again on episode 2 and discover that he started wearing women's clothes outside of his house. The characters evolve (After all, we've known them for 3 seasons), and that's a nice touch. The fact that the writers didn't go for top-list actors and chose to stick with the ones they worked with before is wonderful.

So far I loved episode 3 the most. It took sometime to get used to the idea that this episode takes the perspective of a dog - Gatsby (Bowdie). I was a bit worried, also, that his relationship with his doggy-walker Beth (Yael Stone) was going to get pervy and weird. That's not just my sick mind, but also how TV and movies taught me.
A lot of times, pets are viewed as children. They tap into our most basic emotions and often we feel the need to protect and nurture them. I fell immediatly for Gatsby's loneliness. Even after it comforts it's owner Chase (Ryan Woodle), that doesn't break the ice between them. When Chase opens Gatsby's cage to go for a walk, he doesn't feel the need to comfort him, Although it is visibly sad. The striked a chord too. But the writing was better then just a "Beethoven" spoof - it filled the gaps and made it a solid episode of "High Maintenance". It's best of the three I've watched.

I'm looking forward for more. Happy to hear it was renewed for a second season.
