first episode pretty bad

i was looking forward to this, but after seeing the first episode i am disappointed.
they are trying too hard to make it funny instead of being interesting and informative. in my opinion it fails miserably. i hope coming episodes improve.

also, about the "mind control"; they say it is not fake, but how come only certain movements caused tory to throw his arms out? i get that it is the equivalent of getting a reflex hammer to the knee, but it sure seemed fake..

reply

That was the problem with the build team in general in the later seasons of The Mythbusters. They became tv star personalities more concerned with being "funny" or "cool" on tv than actually testing myths. Ultimately there is a reason that there was a healthy amount of us that were okay with it when the build team were dropped by Discovery for the last season or 2 of the show. And based on the fairly middling reviews of The White Rabbit Project that I've seen so far it seems like the show is more of the same in that regard, plus a highly unfocused formula that simply doesn't work and isn't very informative or science-driven.

reply

I agree. I didn't like it and probably won't give the second episode a chance because of it.

do people really stop watching after a single episode? I try to at least give any show a quarter or half season to grow? the first season episodes of mythbusters were not great, but they really hit their stride starting season 2. I dont know, to stop watching a show after 1 episode to me is like walking out of a movie in the first 10 minutes

reply

To stop watching after one episode is like watching one movie and not watching the sequel.

...yeaaaaaah....what's your point? If I watch a movie I think it utterly sucks I'm not going to watch the sequel to it.

I wasn't replying to you. Read all the comments before posting.

Doesn't matter who it was intended for, this is an open forum.

I agree with them too, I don't watch sequels for movies I didn't like - why waste the money if you didn't like the original - and usually take the same approach with shows. Knowing that shows have a smaller budget and take more time to hit their stride I usually try a few episodes first, but after years of seeing this group on MB I had a pretty good idea of what to expect from them and the first episode fell completely flat. Therefore I won't be watching beyond the first.

To each their own...

Maybe you should read the comment I was replying to, you idiot. I said the same thing. Read the comments before posting.

You seem angry, maybe less time online will be healthy for you. I read all of them and provided my input, if you don't like it too bad so sad, life goes on...

reply

It gets better after a couple episodes but I agree the first one was a bit rough.

It's really kinda odd we're getting a show like this on Netflix. Scripted shows are one thing but shows like this really suffer in the binge format. The forced humor is sorta overlooked with commercials and all that, here it's just non-stop.

What do you expect when they hire a woman with no real talent other than the fact she's a woman.., you think she can fall back on her skills in science or engineering? no, just cringey lame jokes and smiling like a mannequin 24/7

reply

kari, she is ok i guess. not great but ok. but it did make me giggle a little when the caption said she was a "scientist" in episode 8 or 9..

reply

Kari is qualified and experienced, she used to work for jamie at m5.

and only came on the show initially to replace scotty then stayed on.

The first episode was awful. They were trying so hard to be funny and that just appears as desperate to me. This might be something for kids, the roach experiment might have been a bit much for them however. I stopped watching at lightning whatever.

As for the movement it's very simple it's just electrodes attached to certain areas(muscles) of your arm. The guy knew where to place them, just give a shock and your muscles contract.
