The school bus?
what was the deal with that? why was there a school bus in the woods and how was this relevant to the story?

One of the concerns raised by the therapist about her undergoing hypnosis was that she might have "false memories". And she did have these memories pop up in the middle of it of herself as a child seeing the school bus. So I think the school bus being in the woods, in reality, was a way of showing that there was a school bus involved but under hypnosis, she didn't remember it properly.
