I'm about halfway into episode one, and it sure seems like it. It's not without entertainment value, but it's a complete reproduction of another show's premise. Does it become its own thing or what?

It is it's own thing. Same genre, as are several other shows. More comedy than horror. Lots of the Brit wit I enjoy and clever banter.

and Buffy was a reproduction of a dozen other shows before that.
and I'm sure in ten years some idiot will say some new show is a reproduction of this one.
