Based on a real story?

I just finished watching this. The final scene really made me cry. Then there was a blurb about watch Deep Water: The Real Story...I don't know if I'll be able to see it on my app or if it was already shown in Australia and I had no idea it was based on a real story. Has anyone seen this follow up show? It looked like they did interviews with victims families and police etc. I really liked this series and I'm looking forward to finding out more about the story now.

Thanks for the information. Hope I'll be able to see the documentary too.
I made the links clickable :)
The first one is a bit hard to follow. I gave up on the left/right part and concentrated on the part that scrolls down. Amazing stories though.

Yes there was a lot of bashings targeted towards the Sydney gay community back in the 80s and the police didn't really care until it got worse when a local weatherman went missing (they still haven't found him.
It was a bit of a concern when young guys at work during that time used to boast about "we're going to Sydney this weekend to do some 'poofta bashing"...one of them turned out to gay!?!
