How did the humans get back to earth so fast

Its stated that it took them around 20 years to get out to 11 ligght years away from earth yet to get back to earth it looks like it just took seconds of warp jump. What peice of dialog did I miss that explains this. They were in subspace for a whopping 20 seconds I don't get it.

Desperation. Leaving they had nowhere to go so they were wandering, looking for another planet. Going back they had a destination and no reason to linger since there was nothing habitable between them and Earth.
