Confused

What was that ending all about.

I'm confused too. Did I miss something?! Thought this would be a lot better than it was.

Final shot is a bit of a nod to The Long Good Friday.
The gang are clearly going to drive Carl away and either badly beat him up or just kill him. We don't see this though because it will be away from view of CCTV.
Carl knows he's in too deep and probably won't survive, hence he leaves his possessions on the desk.
I think he feels guilty for getting Lee involved in the first place and that is why he sacrifices himself to the gang.

Overall I thought it got a bit far fetched. CCTV operators know that they are mainly there to gain video evidence, not to try to prevent crimes from taking place. He would also know to prioritise actions likely to cause harm, like the suicide attempt.

Still an interesting subject for me.

I'm really confused about the ending too. They weren't exactly big time dealers with only £2,000 in a little man pad. Surely they wouldn't kill him just over that?

I'm a CCTV operator and the majority of this TV movie was so inaccurate haha.

Was it all a religious metaphor? God can't intervene successfully at a distance - the suicidal girl fails to hear His message - so like his son he has to manifest physically and goes to meet his almost certain fate with something close to serenity in order to save his colleague and the young black kid. Playing God is dangerously counter productive, only sincere selfless actions are God-like. Probably wrong but there you are...

I've made up an ending for the story. I'll post it up in a day or two.

Seems to be becoming a bit of a trend at the moment with loads of great shows that have crap endings. Its almost as if they cant be bothered.
I blame Lost, every writer thinks they can get away with it.

Why didn't he just call the police !!!!!?????

A few things spoilt it, for instance taking the call from his wife right at a crucial moment when is mate was being attacked, why would he do that at that moment? Also not telling his daughter on the phone that he needs to go when something bad was happening and then again not reacting to what he was eeing whilst she was infront of him.

A good idea,a good story but not quite right.

It was all just a little bit daft. Snooping on his family (just where exactly was that camera?) Sending his idiot mate out to nick a couple of grand - and then to give it back to a bunch of hoodlums who didn't seem to care their whole operation was being recorded.
Good idea - woefully executed.

The whole fishing scene made no sense. The cross-plaid glasgow 127B would never work on dry land. Also the CCTV set-up used mainly Double Aphix twarq screens with a Throptic Mono-Handle -which- given it lacks a parallax Inversion Bipedal facility would render a good number of the scenes almost impossible to capture.

Still an enjoyably silly film with a sublimely stupid plot.

I thought it was a great TV movie, but the end, trying to be clever, just left me feeling like the sky plus had cut the end of

TV producers try to be clever and have open ended conclusions to TV/films but in this instance it wasn't the right choice, we'd invested in Stephen Graham's fantastic acting and his engaging character for an hour only to get no conclusion or to make your own - well, I'm not a writer so can the writers finish the story for me please? You wouldn't read a book that had the last 3 pages ripped out, and I just felt a bit like that when The Watchman ended

I'm guessing that maybe Carl was driven somewhere and killed or beaten up, the more worrying message is that those scummy little chavvy drug dealers got away and their 'victory' was glamorised seemingly promoting the message that it was ok for them to get away with their crimes
