Robert's "grand reveal"

Did he really think that nobody would reveal it before the show aired? If I remember correctly, Robby said that he immediately recognized him from his videos.

reply

I read it way back last summer...so it was out there..

reply

Exactly. He must've known that it would get out.

reply

probably not intended to reveal, but once it's on the internet (Eric) it's there for good

reply

He wasn't really honest about the escorting. He said he did it "back in college", implying a long time ago. But hasn't it been reported that he was escorting much more recently? And he didn't mention the porn at all.

reply

He totally sanitized his story. But I guess he had to. How would it have sounded if he told the final three guys intimate details of what he's done in porno movies and with clients?

It wouldn't have been very 'Prince Charming' of him.

reply

It's not just the videos and such. What the above poster said is correct - Robert said he did it in college... His escort profile was open in the last couple of months as well.

The whole whitewashing they are doing in and outside the show is absurd. They keep saying it's "in his past" when it's clearly his present.

But why go for it in the first place? People will instantly leak that it's a lie. Heck, the guys in the house knew already.

reply

Slight nitpick, Robby didn't recognize him from his videos. Another guy said that.

Robby recognized him from his twitter account, which he started following ever since Robert was someone's boytoy (I think Marc Jacobs? Don't recall)

Which just goes to show how stupid the whole thing and the guys knew all along.

reply

Jacobs do love his "boys!" Who was one of them; Austin from "The A List NY" before getting kicked out with his LV luggage and garbage bags of junk?  

Yeah, I suspect that the other guy, who's still anonymous, was Brodney because I believe he said that he thinks he "recognized him from the gym". We know how fast gossip travels in gay circles, so it's likely that he would knew he was a prostitute.

reply

Now I have to wonder when did LOGO know it? Did the "grand reveal" information come out during the production? It could explain how just weirdly detached Robert and the suitors appeared during the show. It could explain Chad's anger and some other just odd happenings.

Apparently Robert's escort pass is much more involved than just a couple of years when he was a struggling college student.

Whatever happened, one thing is for sure, LOGO played their audience. They knew at the very least at the time of the finale. If they want a Season 2 of this show, they need to be careful and (gasp) honest in their dealings with their audience.

reply

Only a real pro could do this silly show; the staging and setting up of things to tape and entertain! At the reunion, will some have faux outraged? Like we all don't know about such things; totally innocent! 

From day 1. Reality shows go for insane measures to do background checks on people in them. It is impossible - not improbable but rather impossible - for production not to know about Robert being a rent boy.

Did the "grand reveal" information come out during the production?

Yes. Beyond the fact that producers knew about it from their investigation, several of the guys mentioned recognizing him from his videos and such and admitting to telling producers about it.

Sure, I even wondered if someone told Chad about it before he left since his impression of Robert seemed to do a whole 180 with no reason given.

But I don't think that's why Robert looked so detached. I think he seriously just lacks any form of personality.

Yes, his profile was active about a month before the show aired.

I'm not sure that they did. The story broke out LONG before the show aired. And people seem to really mock the show.

And as I said, they knew about it all along. They most likely picked Robert BECAUSE him being a rent boy will be "shocking".

It's already renewed for season 2.

reply

Yes, looking at it now, it appears LOGO knew from Day 1. They got much more mileage and buzz from this show than they would have without the escort scandal.

reply

Even more phoney than the reveal, was the reaction to it. Both guys matter-of-factly accepted it, as though he'd just said "I used to be a smoker." I'm pretty sure that most guys would have, at the very least, a few questions and a few reservations. And a lot of guys would find it a tough thing to get over. Especially in the context of a reality show. "So you were a hooker, and now you're selling yourself on TV". It rather suggests a pattern. I also found it rather objectionable that the producers made a massive deal of Eric being HIV positive - and in a sensationalist way not longer really appropriate to the times - but skipped over Robert being a hooker in about four seconds. So much for their values.

reply

Values? Honey, this is reality TV! Are you kidding me? After Robert hustling, what was he supposed to be; indignant to a virus? He might be ill himself! 

"Reality" TV only works when the producers manage to conjure some kind of connection with the way real people might behave. Granted, Finding Prince Charming failed at this in most areas. But making a big deal out of some guy's HIV status and then totally dismissing another's past as a hooker and porn star is a giant fail. And more than somewhat offensive.
